Hey everybody! I've spent at least 24 hours researching hard on what laptop to buy for college. My budget is around 2k (I can go up to 2.2k if needed).

I've seen many laptops from many different companies and my preferences are as follows:

  • 4k Screen (but needs to have good enough graphics to run things in 4k)
  • Long Battery Life (the longer the better)
  • SSD/HDD (Good amount of space)
  • Portable (I don't want a desktop-worthy laptop)
As of right now, I've made a list of a bunch of potential options. Note that the prices are after the upgrades that I've decided to give the laptops (if available)

Sager NP9753 Notebook ($2,019)
http://www.sagernotebook.com/15-Laptops/

New Razer Blade QHD+ ($2,199)
http://www.razerzone.com/store/razer-blade

MSI Ghost GS60
www.google.com (sorry I was too lazy to get the link again)

Sager NP8652 (Clevo P650SG) from XoticPC ($1,918.01)
http://www.sagernotebook.com/15-Laptops/
http://gyazo.com/8b8fd0a0856c6c47210fdbab01151741

Malibal Lotus P150SM
http://gyazo.com/d104f57e48f821294dfa582fce581683

Alienware 15 ($1,799)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...-na-_-na&cm_sp=&AID=11552995&PID=7247212&SID=

These are my best options right now, based on all the research I've done and everything I've seen. If you have any recommendations or believe that any of the laptops on my list are a "must buy" please let me know.

As this is a really big purchase, I want to make sure that the laptop I get is certainly something that I'll love in college. I know that I could just be getting some shitty $500 laptop for college but that's just not my forte.

Thanks for all your help!

This is a beast laptop, and actually one of the thinnest laptops on the market, Dual 860M 8gb SLI, SSDs in RAID and incorporates mechanical/programmable keyboard and stereo sound features that only a desktop normally has, but as you requested it i by no means bulky. If you were willing to spend a bit more you can get GSYNC with 970M SLI which is a laptop that would blow any of our minds considering there is only 1 screen for so much graphic processing power. Clearly this is the best option, and I am not the only one that thinks so --->

Gaming at College?
I appreciate how much effort you put into addressing the main post of my thread, instead of going completely off topic and being useless in every way possible.

Oh wait...[DOUBLEPOST=1434894879,1434894758][/DOUBLEPOST]

There's some downsides with the Aorus, which is why it wasn't on my list above. They also make a dual 965M SLI version (x5) but again, I don't really know how badly I want it. There's many other laptops out there that I believe are just as good, if not better and I haven't necessarily heard great things about the build quality on the aorus.

I really like my options above for the price. Thank you for your input, it will be considered.[DOUBLEPOST=1434895451][/DOUBLEPOST]

Also, now a days, the 860M (even in Dual SLI) can't out run cards like the 970 or 980. Not meaning to correct you, but also, there's no mechanical keyboard on that laptop I believe. I think the only one that I've ever seen with a mechanical keyboard is the MSI Titan gt80 (I think that's the name).

I feel like going with dual SLI 860m's is more expensive than just going with a single 970, which is just about as strong in the first place.

I personally would go with a Lenovo Y50 4k, its great for pretty much everything a bit under your budget, slim, stylish and will give you some extra money for peripherals, software etc.

My biggest issue with this laptop is that it's only running a 960m, which isn't very great. A card like this makes running a 4k screen useless as games in 4k will obviously require better graphics, which the laptop can't provide.

I see, I'd say go with the Sager (since LTT likes it) here LTT shows it seems impressive. I'd also look at this if I were you as ROG is very high quality and many gamers (and LTT) love them https://www.asus.com/Notebooks_Ultrabooks/Gaming_Products/.

ROG was originally what I was going to buy. For many reasons, I've decided against getting an ROG as I can get better for cheaper elsewhere (such as a sager)

I am really liking everything I see from Sager. What's even better is that you can fully customize these laptops through XoticPC.com.

I'm thinking of either getting the Sager NP9753 or the Sager NP9773 laptop, which the main difference is the screen.

In the NP9753, there's a 15.6" QFHD Matte 4k screen, but in the Sager NP9773 there's a 17.3" FHD IPS Matte screen.

What do you think is better?

I put it because I'm not super educated on alienware and they are raved about but super expensive and I don't see why, so I was hoping somebody could tell me what makes them so special (which is probably because they have that amplifier thing which I find stupid)[DOUBLEPOST=1434899581,1434899474][/DOUBLEPOST]Also, the thing that really stands out to me on the two Sager laptops I happen to really be into are that they have an incredible build quality and are some of the few laptops out there that you'll find with G-Sync.

May i ask why 4k?

Macbook retina wouldn't be that bad if you got the 15'inch one with nvidia graphics. (I might be wrong)

I just think 4k is swag, but at the same time it isn't necessarily necessary. I'm currently not interested in a Mac (that's just my personal preference).

This is my main choice right now.

You can game on a mac, like i am now.. Not many variety of games, but still

Infact, I am using a macbook 13'inch retina right now.. :L
I don't think he's saying you can't game on macs, but that's definitely not their intended purpose.

NP9773, because LinusTechTips reviewed and swagified its appearance to the general public.

But that doesn't necessarily make it better?

Also, if I'm going to get it, I'd want it through XoticPC so I can swag it out more.
