anyone registered there, Don't panic, its usually a bluff.
They'll have the public info that is displayed to anyone who you pay to with paypal, yes, but your paypal password (and therefore the account) is still secure.

I don't know how many people here experienced the Patreon leak, but basically I (and so many other people) got an email that tried to extort us in return for them not dumping our info. It was fake, of course, and this is similar.
IP adresses are extremely easy to trace for someone with any experience. it's most likely our IP adresses are already out there (unless VPN or proxy ofc), but so what? So what if they know where we live? are they gonna come murder us in our beds now? Nope.
I'd also like to note that anyone who has ever registered a website domain will have all info they filled in there public on websites such as WhoIsMind.

Phone number and email adress are, surprisingly, the most annoying. Nobody's going to do anything with your home adress unless they happen to live close by (or maybe some physical spam mail? well, who cares, light your hearth with it).
Email address, and specifically phone numbers are a lot more annoying. before you know it you'll be bombarded with spam email and sales calls and whatnot, and it'll be a bloody nuisance to get rid of them.

For that reason I have 2 phones. The one I use normally, and the one i use to register and verify stuff online. The latter is just a cheap prepaid that cost maybe 10 bucks to buy, and I keep it off (and battery out) except when I need to verify.
As for emails, I use an email masking service that allows me to turn off forwarding to my main address, so any spammers can go to hell.

All in all, these guys are little better than most internet trolls, they just know a little bit more technical things than the average troll.

I'm interested on how they managed to hack into these big servers? For educational purposes, of course.
They didn't hack the servers, they just ruined the forums. The skid doing the 'hacking' just knows a trick about enjin sites probably. If he truly knew how to 'hack', then he'd be doing better things than taking down minecraft forums of servers that made him a little butt-hurt.

They're hackers. Do you expect them to say: Oh my gosh, I'm truly sorry for hacking you. Very sorry about this whole circumastance, but your website is down.
I have had a hacker come to me that they were involved in hacking a site and my password was compromised and he came to me out of no where to warn me. They are not all bad.

Indeed, there's 2 sides of the coin to "hackers"(though many variations of each).

Most people associate the term "hacker" with someone who steals data and breaks into secure databases with ill intent.

In reality it refers to someone skilled at breaking through other people's code. It is dependant on the person what they use these skills for. The above are obviously the trolling type, annoying but mostly harmless. Then there's the malicious type, the "anonymous" type, the helpful type and the experimenter. not gonna explain the details on each one, you should get the point.

I mean in this case, he did do this (break into two sites) but he warned me and others about it.

Hi,

Mikgreg here from Omega Realm. While I'm still looking through what happened, the dumping of user info is not yet confirmed a hoax. My site and others were not hacked at the side of the website itself, but rather accounts with raised permissions were being compromised.

Access logs from my website show no signs of brute forcing, they just simply logged into admin accounts after minimal attempts, leading me to believe that user info has to be getting exposed somewhere - I'm still piecing together the situation, but it's something to keep an eye on.

I recommend any of you with xF forums to enable mandatory two factor authentication for anybody with admin privileges.
