I recently had a client ask to me to edit a paid plugin that had a terms of service which required permission when editing the plugin. I refused o work on it unless he got permission. I was wondering how many of you care if the client is breaking their TOS by hiring you to edit their plugin?

Personally I think that a Developers TOS should allow other Developers to edit/update code, at least for private use and especially if the plugin was made privately in the first place. Otherwise I think your client should be asking the original Developer anyway? - And if that original developer has gone in-active, my first point is proven.

However, doesn't matter what anyone thinks, obey a TOS, even if its only to help you form good habits. :)

In this particular case it was a very active developer and also a retail plugin opposed to private.[DOUBLEPOST=1462885605][/DOUBLEPOST]

I have a to agree, basic grammar and spelling isn't hard - Not only does everyone have access to spell-check, but mistakes are literally underlined for you in red?

However, I doubt the internet will change.

A retail plugin + Active Developer
What is wrong with your client?

Tbh I get a lot of 'interesting' clients - Its unfortunately normal.

Deloloper with no red underline, I did have the suggestion though. That's not spell check tho because spell check is turned off.

I almost asked for proof, thanks for the screenshot - No spell check in the title section I guess. :p

Bonus points for fixing it though :)

If it's private why not? It's not like you're editing it and giving it away.

Anyway I'm leaving a verdict that it's fine to edit a plugin if the developer of it ignores/denies a client or/and the client has no other chose and for clients private use only

If the developer refuses to add a feature, or ignores the client, what chose does the client have?
Hire a developer to make it from scratch.

Its why I think a Developer should allow for private edits, and potentially public ones, because it will only be done if the original dev is inactive or doesnt agree with said feature. But means if the original dev goes in active the plugin can continue without breaking a TOS or starting from scratch.

But ofc, developers would (I hope) have their reasons.

I'd note in my case the plugin was TrainingPvP.

Most of the paid plugins on spigot are 50% scams tbh. Won't mention any names but you can find better plugins for free. Oh and the tablist plugin you made potato, I called you out because you were selling a plugin for 1$ that can't even be animated, plus you depended on a plugin. https://www.spigotmc.org/resources/tablist.5776/ No dependencies, more features and for free
