I'm a complete beginner with Linux, never had it and want to install Linux (dual boot, with Windows).

I've stumbled upon Ubuntu and Linux Mint but which one should I choose for a complete beginner? I've heard arcolinuxd is also good, but there's too many for me to choose independently.

Ubuntu is good for beginners, and is quite easy to dual-boot. I've heard Mint is good too, but I don't have much experience with it myself.

This choice really depends on how you want to use it.

Ubuntu is a really great distro. Tons of applications have been developed with it in mind and it has been brought into lots of corporate/professional settings. My vocational school's IT program used Ubuntu on all the machines. It is a very reliable operating system.

On the other hand, Mint is a very nice and lightweight distro. Some people will say it functions a bit faster in daily use and works decently even on older machines. As I said before it all depends on the person running it, which is why Linux is so great with it's possible choices!

I would suggest Kali through the use of a VM. There are tons of already installed tools and applications that you can use to help you learn the backside of things.

I suggest hack the box. It’s a practice hacking CTF with loads of unique challenges ranging from cracking passwords with John the Ripper through premade websites to doing passive reconnaissance. It’s really fun to learn and challenge yourself.

Ubuntu 100% for beginners coming from Windows, once you become more familiar with Linux, you could give Manjaro (Arch, but made to be more user friendly) a try, or you could balls to the wall and steam ahead into Arch.

I personally use Arch and have for a few years, and I love it.

If he's a beginner, he shouldn't start off with Kali Linux. It would be better for him to use Ubuntu.

When I was a beginner I started with Kali, come to think of it, probably why I was overwhelmed from the start.
