what the hell.... Hardcore mac fans much?
If you really can't get around it I guess you have to choose a budget one, so you get to buy a PC later.

Or wait until they spend a lot of time at work while you're at home, and sneakily order a PC with a case that looks like a mac (unless ofc its a laptop)
Macs don't have cases. :p

so a mac for desktop no longer looks like the old ones with an actual case? is it a black box now or just a pile of hardware?

It is a monitor with the parts built into it.

if Mac desktops still had cases, it'd be quite hard for them to do it. Though I guess the OS is the actual problem. well, I guess you'll have to survive until you move out.
But as I said, get the most price-efficient (and cheapest) mac you think you can get away with, no need to waste money on something you don't actually want anyway.
