I'm tired of seeing all the suggestions asking for a native app for MC-Market when all those people REALLY want is native push notifications. The website works great on mobile, but it lacks native push notifications. The only notification type you can get currently is email, but if your like me, your inbox is a nightmare to sort through.

This is highly possible on Mac and Windows operating systems.

Unfortunately, iOS doesn't allow websites to send native push notifications yet.
Not sure about Android.

I tried to look for a current Xenforo add-on that implements these, but couldn't find one. It shouldn't cost too much to develop since the APIs are already there.

Also, there is another alternative to push notifications that might be worth looking into...

As long as it isn't default enabled, (and can be toggled whenever someone wants), I have no problem with this.
just wonder how much work this would require.

It's actually fairly easy to implement. The Xenforo API is the hardest part.

XenForo isn't really that hard either - it's just that not many people learn it and there's very little documentation. Once you get the hang of it, it's fairly easy.

After further investigation, I've concluded that OS based notifications aren't as simple as they sound. For iOS, we require a few things, main issue being SSL which we don't have activated right now and honestly might not be worth getting just yet.

There's currently a Chrome extension for this: https://xenforo.com/community/resources/google-chrome-notifications.2500/

It will notify you of any alerts on any XF forums you log into.

As for native Chrome, mobile android notifications are only allowed by certain sites, one of them being Facebook. So it's kind of a white listing system so we can forget about that for now.

The desktop notifications are really limited. I read about this on digital point and chrome is being really limited with what data a website can send for the notification.

iOS doesn't support push notifications for mobile.

Do I see this being a thing in the future? Definitely. Would it require custom development? Most likely not as developers will be racing to get this developed.

So, for now declined. I see this becoming a thing in a few months.

I dont see what is wrong with checking the website every so often, especially if you keep it always open in another tab...

WE NEED THIS ADD IT ASAP
You know what else we need, people who don't necrobump suggestions which have already been resolved.
