Hello,
Today I'm here asking a question for all of the server owners out there, big or small, old or new, experts or noobs: How did your server get your start, and where is it today?
Here is my story:
I started the MineSpectrum Network off of 50 dollars a mod developer gave me to make a server centered around his mod. I didn't know much about Cauldron and even though I had experience with the modding industry, I wasn't familiar with running modded servers. I asked a few people to work with me, but they discouraged me, saying creating a modded server was not worth the time, money, or effort (as modpack servers generally do not do well as vanilla.) I ignored their advice and started working on the modded server anyway. It took me one month after posting on several forum sites before I got a dedicated staff team to work for me. I worked on the server for 2 months before releasing on Easter Sunday. Our launch was a failure; the only new players we got were friends of the staff. Three weeks following our launch however, we started to gain a larger player base through word of mouth. We eventually started to gain a larger player base, and after a month we had over eight hundred unique joins. Today we get about 10-20 players average in the afternoons/evenings, depending on the day and time. We have also acquired two vanilla servers, and we have made 500 dollars in donations over the past 2 months.
Sorry if I seemed braggadocios in my story if I bored you, I just didn't want to seem like I was just posting this to steal other people's ideas. Many of you probably have greater success stories than mine.
