I know for a fact that this did not exist until recently. Was this the doing of a Mojang Employee? Or potentially a new exploit?

You could get one, but they are all taken, and its hard to find an owner of one. There are many 2 letters taht already exist.

If it were an exploit then yeah, depending on how many get claimed before it was patched it might lower the value.

There are still many unclaimed 2 letters that can't be claimed because the minimum is 3 letters now.
