    Your membership duration on GitHub doesn't determine your skill level, at all. There could be multiple reasons that they only joined in 2018. Maybe they just wanted a new account?     They weren't talking about the server, they're talking about DMs. Just reviewed the documentation, and it doesn't matter either way. DMs are on Shard #0, meaning that you can't shard DMs. I could be wrong in this, I haven't tried it, but yeah.

    If you're not using PHP to connect to the DB, what else are you using? AJAX is just a request, it can't hit a database and pull data unless you give credentials to the client, then use a library to pull it directly, which wouldn't be smart at all.
