Crupellarius Gladiators | Roman Gladiators
Crupellarius was a type of gladiator known for wearing extremely heavy armour (lorica segmentata, the same worn by legionaries) that covered nearly the entire body, including a full-faced helmet and metal greaves. Armed with a large shield and sword, the crupellarius relied on defence and endurance in combat, presenting a formidable and slow-moving opponent in the arena.
