I think it'd be useful to see how many people are currently viewing your thread, and seeing which ones so you can possibly contact them for business purposes, or simply see how much attention is being devoted to your thread

I honestly don't understand how it would be considered an invasion of privacy..this data already exists it's just not displayed.

I agree however that it should only show the amount of people viewing, rather than the names of people viewing, simply as a way to see how much traffic your content is getting.

I do agree that something needs to be done to help freelancers and teams keep track of their traffic. However, this is not the way forward.

You can already see this by looking at the thread view count. What makes it different if it's live or not?

Of course, this respects your privacy settings. So let's say you uncheck "Show Current Activity", you won't be listed on the "Users who are viewing this thread".
