A Website from Scratch

Holy shit.
I remember being the first web designer on MCM. Boy did it feel good. But there was an issue. Time went on and more came in. But there was a fluke. Everyone used Bootstrap. Bootstrap, bootstrap, bootstrap. It was painful to watch. Am I innocent? No. But I am appauled that there has been NOONE WHO HAS MADE A SITE OR TENPLATE WITHOUT USING BOOTSTRAP. So here's my contest, commybity. All the web designers and developers; build a website from scratch. Read below for details.

Rules:
1. No CSS framework of any kind may be used unless made by you.
2. All code must originate from the contestant, none stolen. (I'm looking at you, Codepen.)
3. Your site must be entered by the end of the competition.
4. This must not be a modified pre-made site from someone else. If from you, it may be modified, but not heavily.
5. Other than these listed rules, you can do whatever you want. No site restrictions. It can be a one-pager, full page video, or anything else in-between. The only limit is your imagination.

Awards:
I'll be blunt. There isn't. From me. I'll get together a group of people to judge the sites, and people may put money on who will win. This contest isn't really about money however, its about showing the community you're different, and what you can do. There is a perk however, which is more traffic.

1. Name

3. Short description. Make sure to point out main attractions of the site.

God, bootstrap is amazing.

Well, here's the thing. It is amazing, I know, but since it is so amazing to everyone, it's so generic. Now Bootstrap is a sign of being a bad developer than good because of how generic.

Here's the issue with it: Bootstrap 2 and 3 both have unique designs, but the majority of developers now believe that if you copy that design, you copy Bootstrap. Even if we use Bootstrap without editing the CSS, isn't that a unique design? What's wrong with that? There's a reason they licensed it for FREE-USE under MIT. Also, small point, but Bootstrap obviously had an inspiration, so aren't we copying who Bootstrap copyed? But I digress, that isn't the point. But may I also point out how annoying it is when you make a unique design and someone points out another site remotely similar and accuses you of stealing it? Oh well.

My thoughts:
If you're a designer, and you want to call yourself a designer - you shouldn't use Boostrap. Bootstrap does as it is named, it's a bootstrap file. It's something to be built upon, yet at the same time it is nice when you can only add some little touches. Bootstrap was developed by fat and mdo for web developers, people that are so deep in objects that they don't have the time to design. There are so many reasons why you should use bootstrap, there are so many reasons why you might not want to use it.

I believe you have to think about it from the end user perspective. If they're go to a website to find that it's Bootstrap they're going to immediately know what they're doing, what things are and what they look like and how to get to places. It's called UX, and it's a huge subject. An example of UX is the new Microsoft Edge browser, they've decided to name it Edge for many reasons, one of the main being the 'E' in Edge, as they're able to brand it with a similar logo to that of Internet Explorer so that people who aren't as experienced know that the lowercase blue E is the way of getting on the internet.

I am a web developer. I use Bootstrap. It's quick and it's effective. I would not label my self a web designer, but I can customise Bootstrap in such a way that it does not look exactly like every other Bootstrap site but it functions the same way. Is this cheating? Because it's built on Bootstrap, but looks nothing like it, is this cheating?

Inb4, and in regards to GameTemplates - Yes, a lot if not all of theme are built on Bootstrap. They're templates. Bootstrap is widely known and loved and best of all it's easy to pick up for even those that aren't completely familiar with PHP, that is why they're Bootstrap - so that the buyers can add their own touch, which I have seen be done many many times on peoples sites which use my templates.

If I'm doing private work for someone, I would only use the grid system from Bootstrap and build off that, know why? Because it's fucking great. And so are a lot of other front end frameworks like Foundation etc.

Just positives and negatives in my opinion.
