Hey MCMarket!
Today, I come here with an idea. So.. while I was in the shower, I was thinking about my Minecraft server and was contemplating on whether to get a hub or not for my current, singular server. As I thought to myself, I believed that simply paying money for a hub was a waste of money but I ceased to believed that. I'm not sure if it was the chicken that I had or the soap I was using, but I thought, maybe it would be possible for me to somehow create a server network comprising of other "small" servers.
My current server was released around 5 days ago and I'm averaging around 8 or so players, peaking at around 19 everyday and I've received around $18 USD worth in donations.
How would this work?:
The Idea was to somehow get the word around that I would be offering to "merge" servers with others, meaning that I would add their server to my hub. I'll try to go more in-depth, but currently this is just a simple outline of a very, very stupid idea. After being contacted by other 'small' server owners, I would proceed to add their server to my hub. In my opinion, this would help all the servers involved because we'd theoretically be sharing players and getting more players involved.
How does this help YOU (the owner) and ME get more players?:
We'd basically be sharing servers. As players connect to my hub and/or connect from your server to my hub, they'd be directed to open the server selector to select the server of their choice. However, on the server selector list, there would be multiple server which players could use. Generally speaking, players that usually come online to play on my server, would probably check out your server. This player from my server may even stay on your server or alternatively swap from server to server. In the end, we both benefit from this.
Risks involved?:
Looking at it from my perspective, the only risk is see involved is losing players to other servers in the network that are simply : more eyecatching, better or more advanced/sophisticated. This works out as an investment as you may lose players or gain players.
Thank you for taking your time to read this. Please offer constructive feedback and/or tell me this is absolute bullocks.
TL : DR - Idea from a guy trying to get his server more popular and possibly help other small server owners.
NOTE: I expect no percentage of the server owners' income from donation and etc, and I would personally pay for the bungeecord and hub. All the owners may do whatever they please with their own server. The owners are expected to host their own servers and their own websites. (Their servers are connected to my hub network.)
Comment, and I shall reply. If this thread/idea is stupid, please don't be afraid to tell me.
