Hello i am the owner of a minecraft factions server ( play.chaoticcraft.us ) and we get between 5-10 players on usually when im on. That is decent for a new server but i am trying to expand and grow. We have many Ytbers including myself and we have about 5 voting site links. It does bring in players but i would like to see more people staying and playing

Thanks Orange

1. Voting Sites

Voting sites have been around most of the time minecraft servers have existed. Basically, the more votes you get on your server, the higher up in a list your server becomes.

2. YouTuber Advertisement

In the last year YouTuber server advertisements have been growing. Essentially, you find a YouTuber that creates videos about Minecraft. Send them a message asking if they can make a video about your server, and it's all history from there. Keep in mind the larger the YouTuber the higher the cost will become.

3. Utilizing Project Wonderful

Project wonderful is an advertising site that essentially allows you to bid on ads on webpages to get a placement for the length of time you're the highest bidder. You can specify who to show it, to which website you want it to display on the max price your'e willing to spend.

4. Hold Events

How many times have you tried to reach X players on your server to have only be shy of one or two because they just disconnected as you almost hit your goal. Events are a great way to keep players on your server that are already there and to lure friends of already existing players on. Doing events such as Item drops to server wide hide and seek can be a great way to not only retain players but build the community friendliness too.

5. Get a Website for your Server

A simple way you can get more players on your server is to make a website for it. A website allows a player on a server to go somewhere to voice his opinion in stone and be heard by others to contribute who may not be on the server at that exact time. It also can be used to hold competitions and get members more involved in the community you're trying to build. If you're a bit web savvy, host your own, but if you're unsure and want a quick setup solution try ENJIN a fast gaming community website builder.

My advice :)
Stick to voting website but only advertise on a few so you can rank up on them, it also makes the player willing to vote when there are a few like 3-4 not 8-9 that is time consuming they want to play unless your giving them really cool gifts thats another thing add a rank system for voting it will make them vote even more.

Also, if your server doesn't have a Twitter then I highly recommend you make it one. Twitter is a wonderful tool to communicate updates to your community and also a great advertising platform.

When I say advertising, I mean hosting like giveaways on there. When my Factions server was up, we would tend to have a crate keys giveaway going or a small rank giveaway going. It would last a certain amount time or either end at a certain amount of retweets which generates a lot of buzz for your server as multiple people will see it. (Having a broadcast for the Twitter account and the current giveaway should help.)

My advice from personal experience is this:
Don't use youtube as a way to advertise your server until you have around 20-50 players, and a lot of money. I have invested in many crap youtube advertisements which flopped and costed me money, and even effected my player base by going down (according to demographics).

Your best option is to buy a .org slot, or any other popular voting website slot on a friday, or saturday to get the most possible traffic possible. Slots are the #1 way to gain a playerbase, and loads of revenue.

Hope this helps!
Best Regards,
rocky

Find some of the newer voting sites, throwing it up on minecraftservers.org won't do you any good since you'll be like number #300 on the list which nobody will see. Getting top 10-20 even on new sites will bring new players! Try and get some small YouTubers and make sure to retain those players! Best of luck to your new server :)
thanks
