My parents aren't happy with B's lol and adding to your answer, getting into a good college in Japan also heavily depends on the college entrance exam so it's not all grades that determine it.

Yes I live in America currently but lived in Japan part time until I was 9. By part time I mean like, we would move from one to another every year or so.

And yes entrance exams are a big part, but so are former grades. And I guess I am lucky lol, my parents are chilled back.
