Only bump once per 24 hours.
You are only permitted to bump your thread 24 hours after the latest reply. This is to allow people to promote their thread to the front of the page, rather than having it buried 3 pages deep.
Punishment: Warning

I think the "latest reply" part should be modified to "latest post by the OP intended to be a bump". I try to bump my thread every day around 4:00 PM EST because many people are on around that time. Having other peoples replies and my own replies where I say "No thanks" or "PM me" count as bumps is completely unreasonable. I want to bump my thread every day around 4:00 and not have to wait because I replied to someone interested in an account. It doesn't seem to be that clear whether it implies since the last Bump or just any old reply.

"You are only permitted to bump your thread 24 hours after the latest reply."
"after the latest reply."
"latest reply."

It doesn't seem to be that clear whether it implies since the last Bump or just any old reply.
Are you kidding me?

"latest reply."

...
You are not allowed to bump until 24 hours have passed since the latest reply.
Is it clear now?

This is because ANY reply to a thread will bump it up to the top of the forums in which they're located.

"bump" surely isn't any better at that than "pm me" or "no thanks".
They're both useless to the thread.
They both send your thread to the top of the forum.

Not only that...
But thread posters and staff already butt heads determining what was "intended" to be a bump, and what was an actual reply.
Doing what you suggest will blur the lines further.
Forcing staff to have to determine what was YOUR last bump, looking through every post you've made in the last twenty four hours and determining if any of them count as bumps, or were they simply posts... And was this new post of yours also a bump or was it a reply?
Potentially making the whole process impossible to punish thread posters.
Where, as the rules are... The only thing that needs to be determined... Was your latest bump? And have there been any posts in the last 24 hours?

Let's not make things more difficult on staff than it needs to be...
When they're frustrated, you're frustrated.

The purpose of the bump is for thread owners to prevent themselves from being buried in the forums.
It's not to be abused.
It's not for attention hogging thread owners to selfish-bump their way to the top, when their thread is already active.

Please, let's keep it that way.

There. Clear yet?

I'm not sure why you think "bump" is any better of a bump than "pm me" or "no thanks".

Here's a super sneaky pro tip, just for you. <3
If you want to save yourself a free bump for 4PM... And someone has said something that throws off your precious schedule... Instead of replying to them in the thread, send them a PM and converse there.
Then when 4PM comes around, you can reply to them in the thread with "PM'ed".
OH MY LORD LOOK AT THAT, YOU'RE THREAD IS AT THE TOP OF THE FORUMS AT 4PM, AND YOU NEVER MISSED A BEAT. ;D

-taps head-
It's not that difficult.

You see the problem with changing the rules don't you?

Nah, I'd rather just keep this suggestion up. 2 aspects of my last suggestion are now part of the rules.

I recommended a Bump button with a 24 hour cooldown.

This would be an amazing feature to have for the forums and it would keep a simplicity to the rules and restrictions with minimal conflict.

The bump button has pretty much addressed this.
