custom pets?

Hello I am in the works of a certain gamemode on my server but I have been wondering is it possible to get custom pets. Unlike simple mobs already in minecraft am I able to get ones only my server have.
Would I have to get textures done for them Im trying to figure out how to do it

Servers like Hypixel don't use texture packs, but they use armor stand models to shape the custom pets how they want them. Unless you're talking about an item in your inventory that acts as a pet, which would probably be easier to code than a 3d model that follows you around. Either way, both options can be really cool.
