If you look under Discord in that screenshot you can see how there is my profile and my unique discord ID. I think it should be mandatory if putting a discord account/tag on there you should put the ID aswell If you wan't to see what it looks like without the ID you can click this link and go to information.

Let me counter suggest something similar that will result in not needing this - a simple oAuth login to Discord that authenticates your user and assures it's actually you, followed by then the system putting your Discord tag on your profile. (shoutout to) Deleted User 77352

But what if impersonators... just copy your id and put it there? They'd also have to implement some sort of system to deter fake ids, other then that I like the idea.

Even knowing the ID you should still verify on site. Knowing the person's ID is just a step further to prevent impersonation. Personally speaking, I've only seen impersonators add me on Discord claiming to be other users, not going around on the forums claiming to be other users.

I think the suggestion is meant to require your Discord ID to be entered and it would be displayed along with your name and discriminator.
I still do not really think that is necessary, but I see how it could be helpful.

I hope I'm being understandable.
This wouldn't be hard to implement at all as the Discord API is very friendly to this sort of thing.

Perhaps something like this could be good, but it still doesn't particularly change too much in my opinion. People get scammed by impersonators in most situations because they don't know that impersonators exist and assume that the person they're talking to is the real person without checking.

Perhaps a field on users profiles for their discord ID could be useful, but custom developing an oAuth thing just seems like a waste of development resources imo. If we do introduce the field, I'd also like for us to make a wiki article about impersonators and how to obtain your discord user ID. I might palm that off to Justis or Kram to do because I'm the worst.

I'll move this to pending, thanks for the suggestion.

Agreed, giving a direct link login that links the 2 accounts where people can click on your discord tag on your bio and be directed towards the right page to contact you on discord.

The original suggestion made on this thread is something that we've custom developed for XF2, we're calling it a dependent field.

Once we're on XF2 if you want to enter your Discord username on MCM you'll not be able to save it unless you also enter your Discord ID, exactly as suggested. I'm confident that this should be helpful at encouraging users to put their ID on their profiles moving forward.

I'll be sure to move this to accepted once we're on XF2. Thanks for the suggestion.

Slight change of plans folks.

We do have the dependent fields system, but as you've likely seen we've introduced our official Discord server recently. With the Discord server, we introduced an oAuth system to verify users' accounts, so this has effectively been done. Our API has been updated so that you're able to fetch a user's associated Discord account's ID, the only thing that we still need to do is remove the Discord username and ID field from being typed in on profiles and instead keep it synced with the oAuth system we already have.

I figure this should be a super quick and simple change, so it's likely going to be coming up very soon in the pipeline.
