I opened a scam report on a fraudster/liar who originally went by @Deathcaptain. However ever since I provided screenshots and video in the scam report the users username has changed to Deathcaptain

If someone can change their username, when theyre banned with a new username they could easily continue doing business under their original username scamming people.

So it makes sense to disallow people with scam reports against them to change their username. If anything at the very least have their username changed back to the username they had when the scam report was opened against them.

The whole point of a scam report is to avoid others being scammed. If people can just change usernames that defeats the purpose of the scam report.

Disable the feature while the scam report is active, enable it once it has been resolved. Simple.

A scam report(s) tab is there for a reason aswell.

Disagree. This won't have that much impact as there's mechanics already in place. There is a scam report section on their profile already as the scam report doesn't identify by username, but instead by the MC-Market profile link which is necessary for most (if not all) scam report applications.

Seems rather unnecessary when you can just head over to a tab in two simple clicks for ongoing scam reports.

We're always going to have members evading their bans, and that's the sad reality - them creating an account under a name they've previously used would make it far more likely that they're caught.

It truly doesn't. You should always be linking the member's profile in a scam report, and as mentioned above, member IDs do not change so that link will always direct to the member you created the scam report on. Further, the scam report should always be shown on the "Scam Reports" tab on their profile - changing their name won't remove it.

How do we deal with scam reports where the accused eventually is proven innocent? Why should they be hindered by this suggestion, when they weren't at fault or perhaps the scam report was falsified? Remember that not everyone who's had a scam report opened against them is guilty.

We already have the "Restricted Account SR" group which is applied at the scam resolver's discretion when a member isn't complying with multiple scam reports, which prevents a member from changing their name, making posts outside of the scam reports section, etc. This is a more than ideal solution.

Lastly, please keep all replies relevant to this suggestion - do not go on a tangent into specific details or arguments regarding your scam report.
