Hi, So I'm wondering as a Java developer and a server owner's point of view, what people want exactly from a server other than just a "unique" game mode, which doesn't explain anything... I want definitive answers from you guys! I'd really like to know!

Well, let me start off by telling you that when people say "to make a successful server, you need a custom game mode," it is a lie. You don't need a custom game mode to make a server rich, and amazing. You need to spend time, and effort into it. And sometimes the best way to this instead of spending so much money, is to gather up a team. You can be the coder, get some builders, and hire some server setup guys (Anyone, not referring to myself), so you don't have to setup everything. Also, always giveaway equities of your server (Mainly the team you're getting together) if you don't have a good budget. Try not to give away more than 50% unless you know for sure it doesn't matter if you're an owner or not. This is really it for getting a server started.

Next, try to implement your own ideas in the server. You have an amazing talent of coding, which many people starting up servers do not. If you're in school try to develop a lot of plugins over break like Thanksgiving coming up. You want to try to make it user-friendly, while not being really simple. Make GUI's, custom messages in all plugins (Essentials most important), and custom features since you're a dev! GUI's is one of the best things you can make custom, personally, I love GUI's as they offer a ton of variety. Try to make it more customized by adding classes (when a person first joins to choose from), or certain abilities depending on their rank.

Just remember that you can make a great server if you put the right amount of time. Also, try to get best builds as possible as they are the first impression on a server, not the setup.
