Colocated, at my house would be quite a waste of potentialWhere is this server going to be? Your house?
If everyone had that attitude nobody would be learningBuilding a server is A LOT different from building a PC and I would recommend against it if you lack experience with server hardware.
Note I said lack of experience with server hardware. Learning with prebuilts is probably the first step, not launching yourself into building one. It's like trying to build a car because you've changed the breaks. If everyone had that attitude nobody would be learning![]()
I have a server at home that I've partially taken apart and put back together a few times, but I want to build a server. I'm not too worried about losing money by breaking something or just spending a lot of time figuring things out. I have plenty of time outside of job and school, and I don't really care if I waste a bit of money since I don't have bills to pay.Note I said lack of experience with server hardware. I intend to test it extensively for a while in the colo environment before ever selling it, I'll probably run it myself with Proxmox and a few VMs running game servers and websites for a month.Ahh, I should say if using commercially as I assumed that is the purpose for a $2k spec that you're trying to colocate. As a home lab, it's whatever cause if something fails it doesn't effect others.
Alright. Best of luck then. From what I can see based off those parts, it should fit together just fine. I have no clue about things like the IPMI or other software of this setup tho.I intend to test it extensively for a while in the colo environment before ever selling it, I'll probably run it myself with Proxmox and a few VMs running game servers and websites for a month.
