Well, if you want to get in it professionally, DON'T. Side hosting for friends is one thing, but I am sure this "xtra cash" you have won't go far when trying to build a company. If you want to do it legit you need to spend a few thousand to even get the basic needs to start a business. On top of that, you need to have a sense of grammar, such as capitalizing the "I". You should also be made aware that this market has gone to crap in recent years and unless you are larger you won't make any money.

It would be best to join a web hosting forum to gain knowledge. You ain't gonna learn anything on an MC forum where no one wants you to start up and become a competition. Every thread that was opened here not one of them would give you positive advice.

All of your mistakes will be a trial and error. You got to start somewhere to learn all these things. You don't necessarily need a few thousand to start a business. I started as a web hosting reseller back in 2009 and from there on I was able to build my company to where we are now.

Dreams come true...

I've never personally started a hosting business, but I have been part of quite a few startups. I think that as long as you can find a "niche" to really differentiate your company you'll find it hard to compete. For example, if you can afford to sell at really low prices, it will make your business stand out against the competitors. If you're just another host offering $3.00/GB or whatever, there's so much competition you can't really succeed.

Of course, most of the feedback on here is going to be negative. No one wants more competition. I'd be willing to help you out if you ever decide to start a business or having anymore questions. Feel free to shoot me a PM.

Spend that money in hosting your own server if you really want to make some money.

Dont resell OVH because then people may hate your service. Unless you go for a high dedicated machine?
