Hey everyone,
In the midst of creating a server course, I felt entitled to go in depth with if Skript is actually viable for small-medium sized plugins. I've heard a lot of negative things about skript, however most are met with users saying "that's just what I've heard in the past", and no evidence. So before I go into my research of the efficiency etc, I thought I'd just gather some thoughts of those on mcm.

Is Skript actually as bad as it's reputation?
If yes, then why?
Has there been any major investigations done about skript to either prove or disprove this reputation?

Thanks,
Adam

Used Skript before (years ago). It's okay and tbh any performance impact is negligible for simple stuff. The bad reputation it has mostly comes from plugin devs who see themselves as superior to skript. Even with the addons available though, you're still limited to what you can do and so actual plugin development would win any day.

If you're going to learn Skript then my advice would be to get into plugin development instead as the skills you learn can be transferred elsewhere, too. That's not to discredit Skript for simplicity and quickness at developing it.

Thanks for the incite. Yeah that's similar to my thoughts before really researching it much. From when I've used skript it seems like a really good resource just for simple shortcuts, msgs etc just was confused why it had such a bad rep, however most likely people are just trying to create major plugins using it when that's not really what it was intended for.

Skript is really not bad. As what chearful said, they are saying bad because of superiority of the actual development. Also, other members might also point out the bad efficiency of the skript uploaded in the market, but to be honest, most of them are new to skript and they don't know how to make it more performance-friendly as possible. I assume they learned skript just to make something out from their ideas without considering performance.

Yep, seems to be the unanimous answer from the other forums I've asked on, thanks :D
