Hello there. My name is Klown, myself and a few other people are currently creating a new mmo server. My position is head of game design & recruitment. Before I explain what we need, I will give a brief overview of the server.
When we first sat down to discuss what this server would be, we knew it had to be different, and unique. We wanted to offer players a massive choice of activities to do within our world. We decided that we dont want the whole game centered towards PvP, like a lot of MMO's. We also wanted an interactive world, a world where the players decisions matter.
Our first step to doing this was deciding what our world would be, our world is geographically accurate. It is a massive open world, with cities and towns spread around it, the cities with rich recources near them thrive, while the other ones perish. However, the players decisions can affect this. If players are buying all their goods in once city, then that city will become richer, get larger armies, and conquer rivalling cities, however if playes arent buying their goods in a city, that city will become weaker, the army will shrink, and it will soon perish. If players are killing too much of a certain mob in a certain area, that mob might move away from that area, however if players arent killing mobs at all, they will rapidly start to increase in that area.
We have a team of Lore writers writing us a rich quest story, as well as a large history for our world. Our story will interact with the player in a way that will make them care about the characters they meet, the story line is genuinely interesting and the players will love it.
Players can play the game however they want, we dont restrict them at all. We got inspiration from Runescapes skill system, and decided to implement a similar idea into our server. There will be 10 skills to start off with that the player can level up, however for our first year open we plan to add one skill a month, and after that we will add new skills when we feel necesary. We dont restrict players to choosing a class when they first join, and sticking with it, instead they are free to do whatever they want, whenever they want.
Players can chooose how they want to play, wether they prefer to make money by being fishermen, explorers, fighters, politics, farmers, or anything you can think of. Our story and quest system isnt just about running aroung gathering stuff for random villagers with no emotion, instead you will be entered into a world of corrupt politics, greedy lords, and you will have to fix it. There are different storyline paths, if you are merciful throughout your quests, you may be more respected, but if you are ruthless, you may become more feared. There will be multiple endings to our storyline.
If you are cunning and smart enough, you may even rise to be a king or lord of a small town, and eventually even a king of a whole city, or even the capital city, and your choices actually matter. There will be about 15 cities, meaning there will only be 15 kings, in some cities players can elect the kings, in some cities, it is a dictatorship, however it is all player run. Kings have influence, they can choose to go to war, and pay the players who live in their city to fight other players, or they can choose to build new buildings in their city, or expand their walls.
Players can also purchase housing. We have a massive map, so there are enough houses for every player that joins. Every building in the map will have detailed interior, and you can purchase housing from day one if you want. Houses outside the city will be bigger and more expensive, houses in the city will be small and cheap, this means new players can afford them. From your house you can replenish health and store valuables. Players with larger houses may also have the optin to decorate their house.
That is a brief overview of some of our features, that isnt all of it and there is loads more we plan to add to the game, however in order to create this, we need your help. We have a small team already, but we need a few more people, here are the positions we need to fill.
1 - Game Designers
We are looking for game designers, as head of game design these people would be working directly with me, to constantly come up with new features for updates, and work on figuring out how to implement these features. For this position, you must be smart, and have a logical mind. Game design is harder that it sounds, as we will also work on the game mechanics, and work on figuring out how to implement all these features. Game designers work closely with the developers to create this fun experience, Java knowledge isnt required for this position, however it would be helpful.
2 - Builders / Head builder
One of the crucial positions we havent filled is a head builder. We need somebody who is talented at building, and who can manage a team to build our map, this person must provide a portfolio.
3 - Developers
Our developers are the people who do all the hard work to make this game happen. We already have a Lead developer so we are looking for about 1 or 2 different guys who can join our team to help make this game happen. You must have a good knowledge of Java, and have a strong portfolio to show us.
4 - Investors / Partners
This game is proving expensive to put together. We are looking for potential investors in the project, or partners. For partners, we mean maybe a server who would help us get started by paying, and in return we would give them advertisement, or maybe a host company that could offer us a free / cheaper server in exhange for advertisement. If you think you have a business that could help us, then apply to be a partner. For investors, we are looking for people who think our idea has a future, and are willing to put money into it to see it happen. We can discuss further terms, such as a percentage ownership and stuff like that through skype.
