I just got back into Minecraft and wanted to start a server as a side hobby. I wondered what the current most popular game modes are and what people are into. Is it still skyblock? Are prison servers still popular? Is competitive faction still a thing?

Competitive factions doesn't really exist anymore, basically every large faction quit.
The current largest cosmic factions type server is called Minecadia

Don't really know much about prisons or skyblock but why would anyone want to play either of those?

Mainly 1.19 servers have been trending recently. Lifesteal, Survival, Crystal PvP, anything unique to be honest. It has to stand out, no bugs, and a friendly staff team. Nowadays player expectations are really high and you won’t get anywhere without leveling their expectations or excelling.
