Most profitable type of server?

I really want to get back into server running as I have about a grand or more to invest. However, what is the most profitable type of server? I know the markets saturated, so I was thinking about a Towny type server with custom enchantments etc, because thats my fave, but I was wondering what yall thought. I would usually think factions but I always see those inactive servers.

Towny is good for creating a community & once you're established and an active owner, they will eventually start donating, but if you do this for the money, it won't work

Factions are probably the cheapest and easiest to set up, however, Skyblock players pay the most. It just depends on how much you want to invest and how you expect back from that investment. I would not recommend towny for money though, it just doesn't make as much as it used to.

Well, I have about 1000$ to invest. And I can probably get some people to invest with me. How much money do you think Skyblock would cost? And isn't the market saturated?

I was also debating doing a skyblock/prison/ maybe towny network.

You can be in it for the money and still listen to the community, but at the end of the day, servers need to profit to be successful. So by having a server that does anything but that will fail as well, no one should be ashamed of making a living doing what they do best. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

A lot of servers that are money grabs do well tbh & you can’t shame ppl for wanting money in exchange for their efforts in running a server

Not a single gamemode will be profitable if you rush the server just to make money. Players are not interested in playing (and donating to) the exact same Prisons / Factions they have been playing since 2016. Make your stuff stand out, hype it all up, make sure there are enough ways to monitize without making everything Pay2Win and then donations will come accordingly if you're doing it right.

If you just start to make servers for the money it wont last long.
Quick reminder, not sure how many of you played ~2k15 but Mojang completely
changed their EULA because server owners took it wayyyy too far.
Stop making servers for the profit...

There is a HUGE difference between making a server for PROFIT and making a server to be successful.
I understand it costs money to host and take care of a server, I've invested well over 2k into my server along with 600+ from my manager, yet still have more time and money being put into it. Not including the 600+ $ I got scammed/scummed.

If you're making a server for profit, you should be ashamed for yourself as you're ONLY putting money into getting the server up and GOOD ENOUGH to MAKE money. That's your goal, and whole point of the server. Even if you do some community events, and listen to people, It wont be as good as an community based server.

If people TRULY like your server but you're having problems keeping it up, they WILL donate if you can show some sort of proof it's going to go into the server and not your (joke) meth addiction. You'd be surprised what people will do for those who want a server, to be an owner/manager/eco, and take the time to listen, build, and put their own money into it to fix it up and NOT just rely on profits.[DOUBLEPOST=1589635749][/DOUBLEPOST]For example. If you make a server and label it pay to win, or pay to play. Not as many people will play it compared to servers that arnt. Hypixel is the best example I can think of. VIP,MVP and MVP++ gives you crates you can open every month, but you only get cosmetics from it for the lobby. You can do FREE voting and other daily rewards OR in game quests (like pick up gold on murder mystery) to get coins, which then can be used for item skins, in game cosmetics, unlock crafts, etc.

So many people play on hypixel that if you REALLY wanted a rank, just join a couple of giveaways and I'd say within 3-4 months you could be MVP++ from some sort of giveaway. Now, that is a big example considering hypixel has had 18,000,000 unique people log into the server itself, but who knows how big a server can really get IF it's done right. (AND NOT JUST FOR MONEY)

Although shamful people like you that want to profit off of server and not do it for fun, you server will die. Look at all the Factions servers alive now. Why are they alive? They formed a great community and aren't doing it for money (They use donations to keep server running, new plugins etc) server owners most likely do not even make that much money as you think.

However with that being said Factions is probably the best way. Advertising it so easy there are discords that advertise Factions for like $5-10 and have like 2-4k members on them. On top of that plugins aren't that expensive compared to SkyBlock. As long as your server is decent the chance of you profiting is pretty high.

Factions is one of the most annoying to manage. People complaining about bugs, people using xray, other hacks, insided, etc etc.

Prison for sure, people pay a lot for that. Keep it unique though, people will switch to other servers that do the same thing.
