Hi,
Game servers only have 2*240GB SSD , E3 has 2*1TB HDD

Which one will perform best , have best ddos protection too ?
Also if using SSD what is best way to backup externally ?

Thanks for reading.

Id say get the game server and then get a Kimsufi to back up to. Game servers have better DDOS protection and SSD's are much better performance wise.

Yes I think you are right SSD definitely add to performance , what do you think of i7 compared to e3 though , say I have 4 subservers ion each box , up to 250 players per box ?
I never used kimsufi but heard the name , does it backup remotely and have restore options etc like backuppc ?

The i7 isnt going to be as good as an Xeon. But its going to be fine for handling those players.

Kimsufi is OVHs younger sibling. Basically they are just small dedicated servers insteqd of massive ovh servers. All you would do is rsync or ftp a backup file over

Ok cool , I agree on the servers , Ideally I wanted e3 ssd and pro ddos but ovh doesn't seem to offer this package.

In regards to backups anywhere you can point me to learn more, its something I am very unsure of like how to rsync and what package needed to do so etc.

If your unsure about rsync then literrally have a script to archive the files and send to the other server via scp. Something similar to this but i just did this off the top of my head on mobile. So mileage may vary:
Code:
tar -czvf backup.tar.gz /home/minecraft/*
sshpass -p 'password' scp backup.tar.gz user@server:/path/to/location

Ajdin

I used to be a big deal on here but now irrelevant

Get OVH's game dedi for your servers. Use Kimsufi/SoYouStart for backups.

I don't suggest using anything else other than rnapshot. If too complicated, rsync is more simple.

Use OVH MC-32, the performance is great for minecraft. I mean with the I7 with an opitomsed server you could get a good 500+ on your server.
