Hello,

This has been an issue for myself, but I’m sure others have also found it being an issue, often users use the reputation system as a way to direct anger (yes I’ve got first hand experience of being a victim of this), and it isn’t being used as a way to actually leave informative feedback for the said user, rather users use it as as a scoreboard and if they’re not happy with something, will simply turn to the rep page and leave a negative rep. In my situation, a user who had never dealt with me, who I had never provided any services for, was able to use the reputation system to brand me as ‘toxic’ simply because of a reply I left on their thread. This is in no way what the reputation system was integrated for and in no way an appropriate, relevant or informative source of information to look back on and use.

I know we can dispute a rep after it as been given, but that takes time (both for staff and users) and this step could stop the majority of disputes I’m sure. I think once a rep has been left, it should go in a queue, and it is quickly looked over by staff, if it seems genuine and doesn’t seem to breach reputation guidelines and rules, then it is approved, however if it is clearly in breach of the guidelines and rules, or has no grounds, or is just irrelevant then it should be declined.

Interested to hear what people think!

Thanks,
Matt

Or perhaps we should make something that forces regular people to actually decipher if it’s real or not themselves?

Requiring approval on every feedback would take a tremendous amount of time and you said “seems genuine” - it’s just an opinion and can be easily manipulated without a dispute.

How would that work, what is meant by ‘making something to force regular people to actually decipher if it’s real or not themselves’ how would what be done or even be possible? I understand where you’re coming from however, I’m sure disputes also take a tremendous amount of time, and as for the fact you mentioned it’s an opinion, whether your opinion is used at the approval stage, or at the dispute stage, at the end of the day, staff will always make the final decision in accepting or rejecting a dispute, it will always be, no matter what, a matter of opinion, this would simply reduce the amount of disputes and make sure reputation is used appropriately.

Any system that tries to put reputation into numbers is simply flawed. Reputation is, at it's core simply that. You're either reputable or you aren't.

Requiring approval of every single reputation before it is made public is a massive job to do and it is mostly unnecessary. A large majority of reputation left against users is never disputed, and so having to still take the time to approve all of that feedback would be a waste of time.

Denied, thanks for the suggestion
