Does anyone know if HCF servers like ViperMC, CavePvP and SagePVP use 1.7 server version with 1.8 compatibility or 1.8 server version with 1.7 compatibility?

how do they get the server to be compatible with 1.7?

viaversion or their own custom edit to allow 1.7 protcol

I get this error message when i was using viaversion tho. is there a 1.8 spigot with java 17?

yes, viabackwards as well if your server is 1.10+
