Be prepared! If you don't already know, there is a solar eclipse happening tomorrow in the UK.
You can check out what time your eclipse is at over here.
If I miss this eclipse when is the next good one?
An eclipse will happen somewhere on the Earth about twice a year. Most of these happen over uninhabited areas and are missed. The will be some partial eclipses viewable in Surrey (UK) but there are only three this century that will be as dramatic as this:
·12/8/2026 at 19:13 (91.9% covered)
·3/09/2081 at 08:37 (94.4% covered)
·23/09/2090 at 18:30 (99.9% covered)
The next total eclipse viewable from Charterhouse is on Monday 5th May 2600 at 05:51:06s and will last for 47s. Put it in your diary!
FAQs:
1.Can I use my expensive sun glasses/ ski goggles?
a.No! If you want to understand why you spent so much on your polarised sunglasses talk to someone who knows physics (not me!). They will not protect you here.
2.Can’t I just use some smoked glass?
a.No! This will offer no protection at all.
3.Can’t I just look really quickly?
a.No! Permanent eye damage can be caused by looking at the sun for even a brief period of time.
4.I’m a keen welder and happen to carry my welding goggles around just in case, can I use them?
a.Yes
Thought this would help some! Your's is most likely going to be in the morning (8-10am, and prime times will be around the middle of that).
Enjoy!
