Configuration one: 2 GB RAM, 30 GB HDD, minimal CPU, CentOS 7, KVM or IPMI, /27 IPv4 net for network traffic studies. RIPE approveable rationale available. Detailed information on backbone connectivity and primary access to customer service required. Quote available bandwidth options. Dedicated server only, no VPS. My app needs to own the NIC.

Configuration 2: 64+ GB RAM, Ubuntu server 15.10 no kernel modifications, CPU targeted for 2 GB Minecraft servers, SSD, 1 IPv4 address, IPv6 subnet, network proximity to first machine a bonus.

Buying decision March 3rd. Placing order, March 4th. The total cost of ownership equation on this project is complicated, so feel free to contact me with questions. Swift2plunder on Skype and everything else.

I can source machine one for $40/month from a vendor in the central U.S. and machine two with 128 GB for $85/month from a vendor in Europe. I'd like to shorten the network between the two and/or get machine one on the eastern U.S. backbone for a comparable price if possible.

Getting 64 GB at 66¢/GB/month would be great too. :)

I've been hosting Diplomacy and original games since 2008. My dedicated servers have averaged 3 years per upstream provider.

These two servers are for a one year research project on resource utilization by Minecraft software, but I'll maintain them as long as the user base supports it. Pending the first three months results, I should be putting together an incubator with preference shown towards current vendor.[DOUBLEPOST=1456390702][/DOUBLEPOST]

Thanks! Just weighing my words carefully. I want to make a good impression and all. :)

Holy sticker shock, Batman!

I should've also specified that I need UNmanaged servers.

The stated configurations also assume no effective DDoS protection. The cheap machine with the IPv4 addresses is a router. The second machine is the game server. If I source the two machines through different providers, I can get the total cost (including the router) below $125/month with a 128 GB game server with a sane configuration as the second machine.

What I want to do is source both machines with the same provider, or at least on the same continent, for a *comparable* price.

I am willing to give you two VPS containers for a decent rate, both will in the same datacenter but on two different dedicated servers.
One will be your 4gb "router" OpenVz container and the other will be you 64gb "gameserver" kvm.

Let me know if that might interest you ~

Check with MPGServers Ian.D
I talked with Ian and had a great Skype with his staff, who were very helpful. I really wish that their bigger machines were in stock and about $1/GB less expensive because I could feel really good building a community-based service on their Dallas network with an end-user price of $3.00-$3.50/GB, but I'd need to be paying under $2/GB to make the numbers work. They were kind enough to recommend some alternative vendors in the U.S., which I'm still evaluating.

After much research, I decided that Quad IX's particular set of problems represents an acceptable risk for my business model. Most of the complaints about them center around setup issues, especially panel licenses. I haven't heard any specific operational complaints about network management or machine quality. I'll be trying it for a month with my own servers before offering services to the community.

Hmm. I can offer you a VPS that uses its own NIC. Shoot me a PM
