Hey MCM!

I was considering starting a server in the future, but I'm sort of out of the loop of what gamemode(s) are popular, profitable, and can keep players online for longer periods of time. Is it best to go with the latest version when starting a server now? Is it still possible to do 1.8 PvP servers? Any feedback is greatly appreciated!

Zovichi.

Survival is an easy choice, simple to start and easy to maintain, plus you can play with your players also. You dont have to make it fancy, can literally be a basic map, with a few basic plugins.
You will get players come and go, but those who value a basic setup to explore there own survival, will stay and make it more enjoyable for yourself.

Sidenote: If your starting a server for it to be profitable your in the wrong area, Yeah we see lots of 'big' servers making bank, but they started at the bottom too, id just do it so you enjoy it, then when your ready you can introduce small charges etc.

Thanks for the feedback, I appreciate it. Two follow up questions though: Do you know any ways to effectively advertise a survival server? And also do you think 1.8 pvp servers are still worth it to make?

Factions at the moment is dead, so definitely not that.

I'd recommend getting a survival, skyblock, or prison server out there but make it sort of unique - not some basic one. Make players have a reason to play there.

Thanks for the feedback. Sadly it seems that from what others have told me, the game modes I’d be most interested in doing are considered dead. I’m not exactly opposed to doing a smp, I just feel that’s what everyone else is doing right now if that makes any sense.
