Below I have tried to enumerate many sticking points I personally met when I had a server with 30k unique players, and that this plugin will help you with.
Remember, THIS IS NOT THE MAGIC PILL (but it may be a close to). The best solution to having a quality server at the first place is CARING. Here is some general advice that apply regardless if you will buy this plugin:
- Do you find the default Minecraft mobs boring and wished you could change them?
- Do you get bored killing the same mobs again and again?
- Do you have monster arena plugin on your server and wish to improve it dramatically?
- Have you ever had an idea of a monster dropping special key to unlock some part of your server?
- Do you players abandon your survival server after some time because they "seen it all"?
- Or generally if you feel like you're losing players on your server, this plugin may help you gain it back.
Remember, THIS IS NOT THE MAGIC PILL (but it may be a close to). The best solution to having a quality server at the first place is CARING. Here is some general advice that apply regardless if you will buy this plugin:
- Be mindful about how you structure your gameplay and your worlds. Sometimes less is more.
- Install a minigame plugin that will keep player engaged while they are not playing.
- Consider having a multi-world plugin like Multiverse-Core that enables you to have multiple worlds
- Install a dynamic map like DynMap so you motivate players to track themselves in the worlds.
- Read the Spigot change-log often, try to understand the changes and update your Spigot accordingly (every second day at minimum on new Minecraft versions, otherwise once a week is in my opinion enough).
Frequent Questions
What mobs can be made Bosses?
Any spawnable entity in Minecraft from pigs to zombies to Ender Dragons, and if you have Citizens installed, even player NPC Bosses.
Will Boss work with MythicMobs or similar?
Yes! Boss has been reported and tested to work with another custom monsters plugins.
Can I make animals aggressive? Example: Chicken attacking players?
Yes! Since Boss 4, we support Citizens integration with custom pathfinders and goals. Even sounds and skins for player Bosses are customizable!
Is there a way to spawn the Boss without a spawn eggs?
Many ways! You can create spawn rules such as spawn Boss every Friday at 17:00 your local timezone, spawn Bosses naturally, replace vanilla mobs, or spawn Bosses when entering a region.
Also, you can spawn Bosses from placing eggs into a dispenser, or running "/boss spawn" command. You can even make a Command Block run this command to spawn them, or use our developer API to code in your own way.
Can I run a custom command when the Boss is spawned or dies?
Absolutely, under 2 minutes if you use our clean GUI, open your Boss > Settings > Commands window and configure.
Is it possible to let Bosses spawn if you enter a region?
Absolutely, under 3 minutes if you create a spawn rule using our GUI, type /boss menu and select Spawning to start. You can even force Bosses to stay within the same region!
Minimum Requirements
Java 21 or greater
Spigot or Paper, 1.8.8 - 26.1 or newer except most 1.16/1.17 builds due to conflicting library issue.
Folia is in beta support starting in Boss 6.

Boss 6 has replaced MythicMobs and all of the alternatives we've tried. I use this plugin for bosses, NPCs and my dungeon setup as well as just buffed up mobs. The skills you can add to the bosses to spice things up are awesome and I was excited to test the new update early!

It's been lovely using this plugin. I'm especially surprised when my suggestions are implemented over github. Just a quick question, what does 1 year support means? Do my plugin stop working after 1 yr or just no longer qualify for support and wont be able to download future updates? I mean, I am very much happy to pay the yearly as of this writing. Just concerned if I missed the payment, my plugin will stop working.

I was considering to buy Boss for a long time now, and I must say, it does NOT disappoint. The GUI is a breath of fresh air for those server owners who are used to editing configuration files, and it is 100% worth my money.
What I wish would be added in the GUI is 1.12 pathfinder support. It's kind of sad that I wanted to make a very pissed off KFC chicken that attacks players, but that does not exist as of now (as to my knowledge)

Thank you! We do have some Citizens support for this older version but unfortunately the APIs weren't added until much later, and I preferred not to use NMS for stability concerns

Honestly, it's a very good plugin, very intuitive, ergonomic, well-coded, and pleasant to use, whether for configurations (via the native GUI or .yml files).

- +1 for the natural spawn configuration, which works perfectly (including on MOHIST!!!!, because yes, bosses work just as well on the hybrid forge + spigot versions).
(Unless I'm mistaken, the beta that adds Model Engine integration works 50% (normal, you'd say :') it's a beta.)
Let me explain: the mobs you create can have a texture and a 3D bbmodel (basic animations like walking, head movement, spawn animation, death BUT! For anything related to attack animations or "skills" (like a golem hitting the ground with a shockwave), for the moment it doesn't work; it's the vanilla mob that is "below" the 3D model that will perform its vanilla attacks.
Hoping this can inform future buyers.
PS: I was planning to file a ticket on Github to get more information on whether this was normal, a bug, or in development.)

Good plugin, but could we have a bossbar support? Would be cool to display customizeable bossbars for each boss, and they'd appear in certain radiuses etc etc

Excellent plugin by a brilliant developer. Been using this plugin to make a PvE Arena and a Christmas Mob for my server so far and it is excellent. Really well put together and really responsive dev if you do have an issue which is extremely rare as the releases are clearly well developed and tested beforehand.
I requested Lands integration so that mobs can respect Lands claim flag and the Dev accepted the request and added it within a few days.
This is 1 of 4 plugins I own now from this developer and I can say they are all consistently high quality and feature rich.

Latest version does not work on 1.8.8 especially u cant even open the gui.
And idk on older version of this plugin u can not set boss damage.. everytime i try to use this plugin i find some weird problems :D

Hello! I have fixed it for your fork. Keep in mind it's very difficult to test on all 1.8.8 forks. We've fixed it! Let us know if you have any more issues by opening a ticket on GitHub .
