Hiya folks!
Today is BuiltByBit's 9th birthday! It's been an extraordinary year filled with significant improvements and new milestones, and to wrap up such a year with an impressive outcome from our fundraising event truly enhances the sense of accomplishment.
Gamers Outreach fundraiser results
I'm very proud to announce that last month we raised $34,697.50 for Gamers Outreach! It's been a few years since our previous charity fundraiser, and we knew that we wanted to bring it back with a bang, so we set a goal of raising $25,000 USD. We surpassed that goal after just two days, and we've even been able to more than double the amount we raised in our previous fundraiser for Beyond Blue in 2020.
Name colours & medals
Part of our fundraiser was selling unique username colours and medals that were available for last month only. This raised $8,700 from dozens of generous purchasers. Thank you to the people who purchased account upgrades for this fundraiser:

I'd like to draw your attention to two particularly generous users! Thank you to ThaMango for his generous purchase of 100 days of the rainbow username colour, contributing a total of $1,134.00 to our fundraiser. Automating made an incredible purchase of an entire year of rainbow, which combined with his other contributions meant that he gave a total of $4,001.73 to Gamers Outreach!
Charity split payments
Another initiative we launched was charity split payments, where authors could opt into providing between 10% and 100% of their resource earnings to the fundraiser. This was a success, with $1,417.50 being raised through these charity splits.
Thank you to the following authors who set up charity splits (ordered by amount raised):

Charity bundle
The big event of this fundraiser was our charity bundle, where creators in our community contributed coupon codes and licenses to hundreds of resources in one huge bundle. The bundle was extremely exclusive, only available for up to 200 buyers and it sold out in just five days, raising $24,580 for Gamers Outreach. The bundle started at $80 and increased in price up to $110 per copy. It contained:
- Coupon for 6 months free of Tebex Plus ($80 value)
- Coupon for $25 of account credit from PebbleHost, with unspent credit expiring Oct 31 ($25 value)
- Coupon for 3 months free of any paid JetBrains IDE ($50 value)
- Coupon for 1 month of free system administration from Jasmeow.Systems ($40 value)
- Coupon for a premium banner template from Creavite ($3 value)
- Licenses to 442 resources ($4,366 value)
- 178 builds ($2,035 value)
- 41 models ($643 value)

- 68 configs ($330 value)
- 34 server setups ($312 value)
- 33 graphics ($187 value)

The people who contributed products for the bundle didn't receive anything in return for their contribution, they purely did it to support Gamers Outreach. Thank you to everyone who pledged their products:

Overwolf, the company behind Tebex, CurseForge, and CurseForge Servers, generously agreed to contribute an additional $1,250 to the fundraiser by providing 6 months of Tebex Plus for each purchaser and matching $6.25 of each bundle purchased!
It wouldn't be a charity event if Dann from PebbleHost didn't go above and beyond with a contribution, and they were kind enough to provide $25 of account credit plus contribute $2,000 by matching $10 of each bundle purchased!
And my contribution to the fundraiser on behalf of BuiltByBit was also to match $10 of each bundle purchased and to cover all of the gateway fees, which works out to be approximately $3,000 contributed by BuiltByBit.
Fundraiser impact
The money that we've raised for Gamers Outreach will be spent on the creation of portable video game kiosks, which are called GO Karts. Although the plans aren't yet finalised, it's looking like there's enough money for 9 GO Karts to be manufactured and distributed to hospitals all around the world! They will be donated to hospitals throughout North America, Europe, and Australia. The GO Karts will each say on them that they were donated by the BuiltByBit Community and we'll be receiving photos from the hospitals once they're rolled out in early 2024, which I'll be sure to share.
Resource marketplace improvementsResources remain our focus, and we've made a number of improvements which will benefit both authors and buyers.
Coming soon: new approval process
The largest project we're working on right now is our new resource moderation process. While it's not done yet, we know it's something that so many authors are looking forward to, so we wanted to share more about it today. Currently the approval process is very manual and each time that we need a minor change to be made to a resource, our team manually types up a conversation message to the author to request an update and the author must wait for that particular staff member to confirm their changes. This has worked well enough, but as BuiltByBit continues to grow it has become unsustainable, leading to slower approval times than we would like. The new system provides more transparency to know where you are in the queue, how long you've been waiting, the status of your resource, and how long the average wait time currently is. It'll also allow our resource moderation team to work together towards confirming requested changes on a single resource without duplicating approval work, ensuring the fastest possible approval times for everyone and streamlining the process for our team.
We'll be releasing the new approval system in a few weeks. Here's a sneak peek at how the new Approvals tab will appear:
Server jar policy changes
We've renamed the Programs category to Server jars, and moved anything that isn't a server jar over to the Other category. In our commitment to respect the intellectual property rights of all, we are revising our policies for the sale of optimised server jars. From now on, we'll require that server jars do not contain any code from Mojang directly. Instead server jars should be provided via a system like BuildTools or Paperclip, where they are provided as patches that are then compiled on users' computers after purchase. We understand this shift may require adjustments from authors, and we're here to help with the transition. Existing authors will have until the 1st of September to update their resources to comply with these new policies.
Addon policies
We're very pleased with the growth in use of addons by authors, and today we've added an article to our Author Knowledge Base with an explanation of our addon policies. The article outlines our requirements to sell addons, specifically for offering services and donations.
Author community improvements
We've expanded the BuiltByBit Discord server to have more channels for authors to chat about progress, get feedback, win giveaways, and learn about new features before they're released. While we previously only had one author announcements and author chat channel, we've expanded to now have a unique channel for authors in each category and a channel for our top authors. We highly encourage all authors to join our Discord to get involved in our discussions and give us feedback!
Other changes
Beyond these changes, we've also made a number of smaller changes including:
- Added policies so that users who have been banned for greater than three years, particularly for excessive warning points, may be eligible to have their ban lifted following a new appeal
- Added restrictions to resource taglines to restrict excessive capitalisation, emoji and other special characters
- Added requirement that cover photos must be added for resources published in the builds, graphics, configs, server setups, websites, and models categories
- Added feature to Author Discord bot to right click user to get a link to their profile
- Added subrule 5.2.2 to clarify that resources with a required license key must specify it in the dependencies field
- Adjusted subrule 5.2.1 to say dependencies field rather than description
- Adjusted error message that showed when automatic conversation titles were too long to be more clear
- Adjusted Open Graph metadata so that links look nice when embedded into Discord and other social sites
- Adjusted the process of closing accounts to now be called account deactivation rather than account disabling
- Fixed addons not being able to be sold on free resources
- Removed the list of authors who have published the most resources from the homepage
- Removed the list of top rated resources from the homepage, being replaced with a list of the most recent purchases
- Removed the "Formerly known as MC-Market" tagline from our logo
- Removed the "MC-Market is now BuiltByBit" message from showing above the navbar, unless visiting from a MC-Market domain
- Removed the forum to sell Established Discord servers
- Removed censorship of other marketplaces from the dependencies field and tickets
- Removed explanation of what Pro resources are and why they're better from the sidebar of all Pro resources
