What is Hungerlock?
Hungerlock is not your normal Minecraft Hunger Games-style server. Hungerlock runs custom plugins produced by our development team to refine Minecraft and its game mechanics for a more challenging and exciting experience. In addition to proprietary software, Hungerlock uses our own custom-built arenas for unique and original combat.
What makes it different?
Hungerlock is hard. Very hard. In addition to hunger, players face the constant concern regarding their thirst level (displayed in the XP bar) which can be replenished only by visiting bodies of water or drinking from water bottles. To add another challenge, all players must deal with sanity (displayed as XP levels). By being underground too long, players will slowly lose their sanity and eventually die. All that being said, it's also pretty difficult to find food. There are no loot chests scattered throughout the arena (minus the ones at spawn). All food must be hunted and gathered as players do in vanilla Minecraft. Each week, we stream a live match to hundreds of viewers wherein 32 competitors face off in an all-new arena in a fight to the death.
Custom items?
Yep, that's right. We've retextured music discs to act as unique items to improve the experience. This means players do not need mods to connect to our server. We currently have designed three new items: dynamite which detonates with half the power of TNT, knives with a strength between stone and iron swords and backpacks for storing up to nine items while trekking across the map.
What are the staff positions and their requirements?
- Admin: Administrators help run the day-to-day operations on Hungerlock. They monitor gameplay and forum activity to ensure a fair and professional playing environment for all players. If experience is provided, please include proof. Time commitment: 4-8 hrs/week. Age requirement: 15+.
- Build Dev: Build Developers construct new arenas, lobbies and maps for use by Hungerlock. They play an active role in the release of new arenas during our weekly broadcasts. Requires a sample of previous builds. Time commitment: 2-6 hrs/week. Age requirement: 14+.
