What is Sunverse?
Completely original minigames designed, developed, and tested in-house. A Creative Realms system that combines the customization and interactivity of instance-based housing with the freedom of classic creative servers. A beautiful and highly functional website featuring our web and graphic design talent. A mighty player achievement and statistics tracking infrastructure. Servers hosted on our terminals and ready to scale up. A solid marketing plan. All this and more is what you'll find at Sunverse. These features are not hypothetical, and working prototypes exist for each--we're having fun creating and testing them! We're hobbyists looking to create a server that's fun for anyone to play and build a community that we can be proud of.

About Our Positions
These are not paid roles. All of our current administrators, developers, and builders are working on this project as volunteers, and all have stayed because they enjoy being part of our staff team/community and working on the server. We're all people with lives and obligations of our own and are running Sunverse as a hobby because we like doing it and have the skills to do it well. If that sounds like you, we'd be glad to have you with us. We want to turn a profit, of course, but that goal is secondary to creating a quality server with a quality community. With that said, we do know that this site is primarily a marketplace and that many of you may not want to do volunteer work. That's totally fine! All we ask is that you don't give us grief about it, especially on this thread--if you're not interested, you're not interested. Keep things positive!

But that's not to say you don't get perks!
  • A refreshingly friendly and dedicated team to work with. You won't find power-trippers or wannabe cutthroat-businessmen here.
  • We will adjust to your schedule. Strict time requirements, especially for volunteer roles, aren't useful, and we won't let your position on a block game server interfere with your life. All we ask is that you're readily available to contact--and that you put out consistent, high-quality work.
  • Form lasting friendships with our talented existing admins, devs, and builders. We're excited to meet you!
  • Access to a wide range of commands depending on your role (developers have more debug authority compared to community admins, who are more focused on punishment/staff tools.)
  • Our current developers occasionally add fun "novelty" commands for admins to play around (and amaze players) with.
  • Are you tired of standard XenForo rank ribbons? Ascend to a higher level of cosmetic recognition with our hand-designed forum avatar frames! (Admin frame pictured below.)

You get the gist. We want to make your experience working with us a great one.
So, without further ado, we're looking to fill the following positions:

What you'll need:

  • We'll ask you to either provide your resume or reference contact information
------------------------------------------------

Lead Developer
As the lead developer for the Sunverse Network, you'll be in charge of leading the development team with projects, ensuring that players are having an enjoyable experience, creating new game ideas alongside the production team whilst leading the team.

What you'll be doing before release:
  • Creating our base code for the Sunverse Network website, back-end and game plugins
  • Designing and maintaining an efficient workflow plan for developers

What you'll be doing after release:

  • Experience in git source control
  • Experience working with Trello/Jira preferred
  • An open mind and a positive attitude
  • We'll ask you to either provide your resume and portfolio
------------------------------------------------

Network Developer
To speed up server production time and further develop our reserve of unique, custom-coded features and games, our lead developer is seeking administrator-level developers to join our team.

What you'll be doing before release:
  • Assist with the creation of original games and network features
  • Patch bugs and errors in network code
  • Help us brainstorm ideas for new games and features
What you'll be doing after release:
  • Pretty much exactly the same as before!
  • Creating webhooks and external software for our website, staff panel and Discord
  • Assisting junior developers on smaller projects
What you'll need:
  • Understanding of concurrent programming
  • Experience with Java, and the Spigot/CraftBukkit and BungeeCord protocols (required)
  • Experience with PHP and SQL, as well as the Paper/PaperSpigot and Waterfall protocols (preferred)
  • Experience in git source control
  • Experience working with Trello/Jira preferred
  • An open mind and a positive attitude
  • We'll ask you to either provide your portfolio

    ------------------------------------------------
Additional Note on Compensation
All of our current administrative staff are volunteers, and under our current budget, we are regrettably unable to provide payment for administrators and builders at this time. To compensate for this, however, we are happy to accommodate your schedule--we'll make sure that your volunteer work for a block game doesn't interfere with your job, university, or other real-world obligations.

------------------------------------------------

Application Process
We don't discriminate by gender, sexual orientation, or time zone, but we do have a minimum age requirement of 16 years old for administrative positions.

We don't impose the 16+ administrative age requirement because we think younger users aren't talented or "mature" enough to do administrative jobs-- they can and they have. We impose it because our administrative team is mostly 17+, and we just don't think it's appropriate to bring on significantly younger administrators for a variety of reasons. To MC-Market members 15 and below, we're sorry for the inconvenience, but this policy has worked for us elsewhere and we'll be holding to it here.

Additionally, we strongly prefer that you commit yourself to Sunverse for the duration of your time as an administrator (i.e. don't hold staff positions on other servers at the same time as your SVN admin tenure.) While we're willing to make exceptions for extremely talented and organized candidates, especially in the pre-release phase, we've found that it's more fulfilling for everyone involved if there aren't any conflicts of time and interest within a staff team.

If you are interested in one or more of these positions, please fill out this form here. Well, that's about it. Whether we get a hundred applicants or zero, we thank you for taking the time to read this post. Feel free to ask us questions on this thread.

We hope to see you on our team!
Regards,

Glummes
