1.8.8 for Factions

Looking for feedback regarding 1.8.8 for Factions vs. the latest version.

I understand there a majority of Factions servers are still on 1.8.8 (slightly over 50%) but I do also understand there is very little support for any 1.8.8 issues and they must be fixed by custom development.

Can anyone help me to weigh to pros and cons of starting a Factions server on 1.8.8 versus the latest version?

I will be using PaperSpigot unless anyone can provide any better alternatives.

1.8.8 is way better than the recent versions, PvP is actually good in these versions.

Do you know of any more recently updated server .jars aside from Papers and Spigot that support versions 1.8 or anything else that are reasonably priced/open source?
