1.8 Server with 1.7 clients?

Iv heard thats its possible to have a 1.8 server but you can allow 1.7 users to connect. If this is true how could i do it? or how much would it cost.

I'am currently using 1.8.8 could you send me protocolsupport for 1.8.8 as i can only find 1.9 / 1.11 and none of them work

If you're using spigot, then this can easily be accomplished for FREE! Simply install a plugin called "Protocol Support", make sure you're using the version that's compatible with 1.8. Protocol Support will make your server compatible with MC 1.4-1.8 (you can get an additional plugin to deny login to people using older clients). If you want to add support for newer versions, you can download and install viaversion ontop of protocol support. It's all fast and easy!
