Hello mcm,
I am here seeing what you guys think about the 1.9 update. I am kind of worried about it because at the moment I am in development of a factions server. Let me know what you think and what the pros and cons are.

High performance, consistent uptime and fast support. Minecraft hosting that just works.

I think 1.9 will actually be awesome when it comes to Factions and Kit PVP. These two gamemodes will have a huge bundle of new content to work with when it comes to PVP. I usually try to keep my servers easy to update so when 1.9 comes out I will be one of the first to support 1.9 clients.

I feel that PVP will honestly be worse. Most people like simple PVP, not choosing what type of arrow to use

I still think the PVP system is extremely simple. The truth is no one will quit the game from this update. People don't like it because it is new. Give everyone about a week or so and they will have no problem with all the new mechanics. I just did some testing with it and I must say blocking is actually good now. When waiting on cool down for a weapon a great thing to do is block with a shield. Secondly, the lingering potion effects can be great for team battles. My favorite thing though has to be the Elytra. The Elytra is really awesome and I can't wait to add some more features in my map to make it much more useful. Also, one more week until the Combat Update comes out!

The changes kind of remind me of the fantastic java (soon c++) game RunEscape
In 2012 they changed the combat system from "click on enemy and wait until it's dead" to "press different buttons to use specific abilites to kill the enemy even faster". One group really liked the changes, the other group hated it.
And about 3 months later they re-opened an old version of the game which is based on their code from 2007. With old graphics and the old combat system.

Most likely something similar will happen in minecraft. Some servers will use the new combat system, most will (at least for quite a while) stick to the old system. Would be quite interesting to see, what would happen when one of the bigger servers decides to exclusively use the new combat system.

I 100% agree with this. I am also a huge RuneScape guy and think this will happen. I would easily expect plugins to fix combat coming out in a matter of weeks. The one difference is how the Minecraft community seems much more accepting to change. The RuneScape community has always been a big fan of "don't fix it if it ain't borken."

I've tested 1.9, it seems pretty cool, there's still lots of bugs though with things like random chest generation, I got 42 sticks in my starter chest, it really only needs some small tweaks, nothing big I could find personally. I think it will be a nice update and addition do the game.

1.9 is nice, Elytra and new end cities are awesome, seemed like Mojang were a bit lazy when they textured them though... just pink quartz.
Updated our server to 1.9 and it's running nice except for the incompatible plugins we had to update, like Mcmmo, FirstJoinPlus, etc
