It does stop people from being scammed. For example, turns out some guy on Spigot was EnumJava and had a lot of vouches on his thread. He scammed a bunch of money (but got banned). If anyone had looked at his code they would have instantly realized it was shit. Relevant.

And I find it annoying when people claim to be developers; although, I will gladly vouch if this is a legitimate team.
