Right now you can only advertise once per 20 minutes.

But lets say, the chats flowing very fast and nobody can possibly scroll up and see the advert for a couple minutes.
I propose an exception to this rule if your adverisement doesnt last in the shoutbox before the 20 minute mark.

In other words, I propose that you can advertise once every 20 minutes (as normal), or when your ad is cleared from the shoutbox, whichever comes first.

High performance, consistent uptime and fast support. Minecraft hosting that just works.

I agree. Since there is still a time limit, it won't be flooding the chat all the time, unless literally everyone is doing (which is unlikely). Even if everyone was doing it, it would be for the same purpose. People can still carry about their conversations and discussions in chat box, without much distraction. People advertise their products and services because they want to provide them to the community. Not to mention, we bought the right to talk in shoutbox, which should give us some right over the rules.

So the suggestion is 20 minutes OR when it’s cleared from the history of the shoutbox, whichever comes first?

20 minutes. If you even dare post another advertisement before that, the wannabe chat moderators will come after you.

Our chat is for conversations, it's not an ad-box.
If conversation is flowing as we want it to be, then I see no reason for ads to suddenly start picking up pace and ruin that.
As it is, we're still seeing too many complaints about too many ads.
Generally speaking, everyone wants to be able to advertise their own product but nobody wants to see anyone else's.

Additionally, chat history clears at different positions for different users depending on when they last loaded chat.
This isn't something that could be reliably enforced, since we'd have no idea what the other users were seeing on their screen.

What is reliable between users is time. If you want to be one of those guys that advertises on the tick and tock of each 20 minute interval, take the personal responsibility necessary to keep track of your own time.

This is something I was going to mention, but you did already. I do somewhat wish that we could see 20-25 minutes back though at all times to ensure we don't accidentally to it early because we think it's been 20 minutes but it hasn't.

Highly doubt that chat will be interrupted by a few more ads in the mix, its not like users had trouble having a convo to begin with.

In fact, relating to other people who advertise often, its harder on advertisers to get their adverts noticed if chat is flowing with many conversations. However, I never proposed or wished that conversations should be minimalized with this suggestion. This is coming from me, who is an active chatter and advertiser.

You can view the chat by how many people post, there is no time limit as to how long you can view a post. If the last person to post in the shoutbox was 2 days ago for example, you'd still be able to see it as it doesnt dissappear after a certain amount of time. (However, I have never seen posts in the chat 20-25 mins apart, so I MAY be wrong but I doubt it).

I am more-so talking about navigating away from the page and then seeing chat again.

Would be too hard to moderate. "chat is flowing" you can't define that. Could it be 5 messages per minute, 10 messages per minute, etc?

no, chat is flowing means 1 or many consistent conversations and people keeping chat alive. Just to note that advertisements dont really count in keeping chat alive, but thats not my goal, however discussing about ones advertisements count as "having the chat flowing"

Well more advertisements would make it harder for people to chat, which is basically the purpose of the chat box.

When no one is in chat == no is chatting, who advertises?
Thats a stupid question.
I personally disagree because, as other people including Justis have rightly pointed out, it's called the chat box, not the ad box.
I dont intend it to be an ad box, geez this aint some propaganda[DOUBLEPOST=1531341863][/DOUBLEPOST]

Guarantee this will hardly effect chatting or ways of communication, if not at all

Actually, you're the stupid one for wasting your time to type a message in chat when no one is in it.

What? Did you mention a situation that we were in?
To be fair, if nobody is chatting and people are just looking at the main page, the ad will stay there for longer. It really works either way.

It definitely will. Having a conversation with someone will become a lot harder if someone sends an ad every other minute. Not to mention, ads will be spammed the more active the community gets. We also know that there will be abusers. Some people are goona do it every time it gets pushed out, which would sorta get annoying as well.
