Hi there.

In the near future, a group of us are starting a hosting provider, first specialising in Minecraft.

To ensure we provide the best service as possible, please comment below annoying issues you've had with hosting providers, or features which convinced you to purchase their services. (apart from low cost and fast servers)

The best response will get $20 USD, let me know what your throughs are. :)

PebbleHost
High performance, consistent uptime and fast support. Minecraft hosting that just works.

Let me sum up a few issues I have had with my hosting providers in the past:
  • Not great support
  • Complicated Dashboards - Too many tools and overly fancy menus
  • Crap Prices -
  • Overcomplicated domain transfers
  • Not easy to buy a lot of different servers from them - Pebble host actually is quite good at multiple servers
  • Overcomplicated spigot jar selection or heavily outdated spigot versions
  • Automated backups almost always cost money
  • Crash and burn hosts that put tons of money in the start but die out within a year - annoying to switch to other hosts
  • Crazy amounts of billing options that take a while to figure out what you actually need

- In regards to not great support, what made it not great? How quickly people responded, the quality of the answer?

- For not easy to buy a lot of difference servers, what do you mean by this? Is this in reference to servers with different specs, or how in which they can be used together?

Cheers, M. :)

Server locations is the biggest thing for me. Especially living in Australia I struggle to have a good range of hosting options that provide servers in Australia and if they are providing for Australia the tech is usually shit compared to the servers they use for their NA or EU Server range.

- Bad support times
- Way overpriced (up to $3 per GB for a budget plan)
- Hard to use with multiple servers
- Confusing/hard to navigate control panel
- Overall putting themselves in better positions/stances than they are (making themselves look better than they are)

Thank you for your response. :)

Our entire team is Australian located and will be focusing our efforts solely on Australia first. As we wish to provide the very best in Australian hosting, we feel if we may diversify our locations too soon, effort/focus to our home land Australia, may fall through the cracks. In all, you asking for decent tech, for Australian clients? Which if so, is an area we are already prioritising. :)[DOUBLEPOST=1602388463][/DOUBLEPOST]

Very good points, thank you!

We were thinking of using the multicraft panel, would you classify that as a hard/confusing panel to navigate? We will be attempting to provide the lowest cost possible for our budget servers, but sadly tech in Australia is quite expensive. Lower than $10 AUD per/GB is something we're aiming for, with in mind, decent performance.

Multi craft is good. Personally I enjoy Pterodactyl more but Multicraft is also good. I mostly enjoy pterodactyl because of the built in editor. When I first made a server like 2 years ago my host gave me multicraft so I downloaded files and didn’t realize that I had to reupload them. So multicraft could be confusing to beginners, but also lets you choose worlds and stuff. In the end it’s up,to you, but neither are really confusing

Thank you! Look's like we'll be heading down the pterodactyl route now. :)

I'll keep this short, and please NOTE that this is MY, I repeat, MY PERSONAL PREFERENCE in hosting companies.

The things that I would expect when buying some sort of hosting from a company:
  • Good Support | Everyone likes getting decent support whenever they face an issue with something, right? I would like my hosting company to provide support within a couple hours instead of 12 hours or more. I would like them to be professional as well.
  • Decent Pricing | Nobody likes overpriced hosting providers, right? Most often, they don't even provide their clients with the best server specs either and they expect us to pay more than $2 a month per GB for that (minecraft plan). I would like my hosting to stay at $1 - $2 / GB and the specs should be somewhat decent, hosted with i9-9900K or Ryzen 7 3600x.
  • Efficient Panel | One reason why I usually don't go with a specific hosting is due to their selected panel. I hate to see Multicraft panel personally on a minecraft host since it's overrated and the panel itself is just slow and old. Pterodactyl with a decent theme is the best minecraft server panel I can ask for and it's a free panel. It's also way faster than Multicraft with the page reloads, page switches, etc.
  • Stable Servers | I have recently started to notice that hosting providers actually have a lot of downtime with their servers. I wouldn't mind a downtime every 2 months with a warning or something, but if it's happening monthly or every couple weeks, it becomes frustrating. Especially when the downtime is for longer than 20 minutes.
  • Locations | It's nice to see hosting with 2 different locations, EU and US. I personally prefer EU servers over US as they are often more stable, efficient and cheaper than US hosting. But it's still nice to see a host with both locations in stock.
  • Interactive | A hosting provider with staff members who are interactive with the community always puts a smile on my face. It's great to just have a place to talk with other members in the community.
  • No extra fees | Some hosting providers ask for an extra fee just to help me with something simple.
  • Clean and Simple | Some hosting providers have A TON of plans to choose from. Just keep it simple with minimal selection of plans. The site should not be some wordpress theme either and basic a WHCMS site. I personally like UI / UX themed sites with a friendly look to it.
  • DDoS Protection | A lot of hosts have frequent ddos attacks and that's usually one of the reasons for downtime. I just want to have a working server with a decent ddos protection to make sure I would not have small ddos attacks make my server go down for hours.
Hopefully this helps. If you got questions, let me know and I'll be more than happy to answer. Also, good luck with your upcoming company. :D

This is a very helpful post, thank you very much!

We've taken everything you've said into consideration and many of things you've mentioned will definitely become a reality with our new company.

For support, I have had it where no one ever replies or messages back weeks later. For multi-server support I mean when I buy a lot of servers to use for bungeecord I like to be able to see them all at once easily and if their offline or not. I included a screenshot of what I like so you can see it easier:

Support will be at the top of our priorities, no matter what. I can promise you that. What panel are you using for that, if you don't mind me asking.

Yea pterodactyl is kinda needed tbh. I don't have a lot of experience on the hosting side but theirs a lot more eggs for pterodactyl I think.

Definitely. We'll be using pterodactyl for our services, I totally agree with you - it has a lot more accessibility.[DOUBLEPOST=1602639768][/DOUBLEPOST]
