Religion does big deals for free, he has an insane amount of rep, and you have no rep. The whole point of a middleman is that they're trusted, and you are new and have no rep or vouches. You simply cannot be a middleman yet.

And yet they didn't do middleman deals until they weren't new. A middleman is someone who is trusted to make deals go well, and you are less trusted than the people doing the deals in the first place!
