amd processors are superior for gaming and intel processors are superior for everything else. intel is also more expensive. ignore what they are saying.

you should find an nvidia gpu.

If you want to go price wise- go with AMD, but if you want long lasting quality- go with Intel.
Well, he is going price wise. Did you not read the post? This is probably like a present or something and his parents probably gave him the money and said this is what he can spend on it. Intel is a good bit more, but he does technically have $30 more to spend which might get him what he needs.

You should also try and get one 8GB stick so you can eventually get another 8GB stick and not have to buy more sticks with less RAM.

Yep, Intel is expensive, but worth it in the long run. Even though it might putit a smidge above $500.
Buying a reasonable Intel CPU for gaming is going to at least double his CPU price, putting him well into the $600 range.
Plus he would also have to pick out a new motherboard (and $60 is on the cheap end for decent mobos, so you would most likely be spending more on that too).

Nvidia is decent. But a majority of Alienware (the best big PC gaming company) computers run Intel, so..
Alienware is a joke. Everyone that knows anything about building computers knows
They're so overpriced when you look at price/performance. Intel CPUs is probably why.

If you want to go price wise- go with AMD, but if you want long lasting quality- go with Intel.
Since he is going for $500, any Intel CPU is going to be a crappy low-end one.
If he has to get a crappy low-end one, he will most likely want to / have to replace and update in a few years, so why bother?

I run 300 FPS on MC, 100+ CS and I have an AMD FX-4500 and an NVIDIA GT 720, to be honest find what games YOU play and go look at the benchmarks. All the Intel fanboys will tell you to blow money on an i7 when if you only play MC, you'd never need. Think about what suits you best, and build that. You'll be happier, it will run better, and you'll probably save money over just maxing something out for "YOLO."

Exactly :)
Plus there's no point is getting a jacked CPU if you're stuck with a $150 video card.
