Dear MCM Newsletters & Creators,

Get creative. Seriously. One minute after someone posts their thread about a newsletter, another one is posted with the same prices and basically the same news. No offense, but what in the world is the point of making people pay to read the news THEY CAN WITNESS ON THEIR OWN? On MCM, everything is public. WE ARE ON A DAMN FORUM.... So, would you read a free newspaper or a pricey one, to read the news that you could find either on the Internet or by doing a MCM search. I find it stupid to "sell" a newsletter. Newsletters aren't a market and they never should be. Do you ever see "New York Times" and "Wall Street Journal" fight? No, they co-exist and discuss different topics. So, why can't we be like that.

Honestly, at the end of the day - I think that there should be one official newsletter - run by Bosny and the staff team. Watching people waste their money to read the same thing they can access for free on the Internet. Smart people, man, smart people.

Sincerely,
Renovix

So, you want to encourage anti-competitive behavior in a market? I think this thread summarises why Ajdin dislikes the idea of an official newsletter. This thread alone conveys the bias perspective of these publications.

EDIT: Personally, I think you're a bit butt hurt over some good 'ol competition.

Alright, competitive behavior is right for a market..... Newspapers shouldn't be a market. I think Bosny should just run his own, official newsletter. Sort of like the announcements, but weekly. Run by the staff.

How does the bias perspective of a newsletter get shown by me suggestion that Bosny make an official newsletter? The bias is in the actual newsletter itself...

Previous to the competition present in the market, your publication, or the monopoly, were fine with releasing an unofficial publication. Now, that competition arises, you're jumping ship back to the concept of an official publication. Though you wish to be a monopoly and hold all market power (in reality, that's what you desire, though you're clearly trying to convey otherwise), that's not how it works. As I said, I think you're just scared of competition.

Alright - sometimes competition gets a little bit scary. That is why I suppose we should just scrap the whole newsletter thing, and get BeBosny and his staff team to make more frequent updates w/ more than just changes within the Market but also market news and drama from Staff's perspective.

What really annoys me is when I get a PM for a vouch copy I never asked for. I vouched anyway. I was then contacted by another paper and THE EXACT SAME THING HAPPENED. Stop!

Here's the thing. I actually already do have my 'newsletter'. It's announcements. They contain important information about changes and additions on the forum. The newsletters are the opposite of that. They contain not important information not many people care about.

There's literally no good reason to make this official except to get the reputation of the people managing the newsletters up.

Wait, you guys want to charge for this? That is some really stupid move right there.

That is not true. If it was official, people would care more about it and it'd be far easier to manage.
No? Just because it's official doesn't mean people will read something they don't care about.

People will read what they find interesting.

So much for your skills running a newspaper.

I think you guys are too focused on what you personally feel about this situation. It's clear cut that just by the fact you can buy hundreds of different newsletters and newspapers online that these are not the intellectual property of anyone so therefore there cannot be any enforcement upon such a subject. Within the real world market place, there is competiton (same as in every non-monopolized industry) that spurs advancements and ensures no stagnation of your product and this should exist here as well.

For a further point, a subscription based model works but only if you have consumers. If you have no one consuming your product then you have no reason to produce your product, so why should you care if "Newsletters aren't a market and they never should be.", because in fact anything is a market you just need to market it, which is what users are doing. But you personally do not need to consume, or concern yourself, with anyone elses product.

An official ran newspaper is plausibly silly when it comes to communities because it only drives to have a "poweruser" as the focal point, or even a group of "poweruser"'s. These users will have governance over anything that is shown and what people see - how can you create 1 product that solves 100 users problems? What if User x doesn't like the official newsletters writing style? It's not a one size fits all solution at all.

Honestly, if this thread replaced "newpapers" with "plugins", you would think it's insane - because it is. It's the exact same concept.

Edit:

Your poll is also insanely bias - why can I not pick "paid" and "quality"? Your poll shows these as exclusive concepts.

The point is who's stupid enough to purchase these newsletters? It's a joke really.

Our newsletter stands out for one reason and one reason only. It's completely free.

That's very great for you but you're just using this as a platform to advertise now. If your newsletter stands out because it's free and not because it's good then I wouldn't be shouting that from the roof tops.
