Okay so as usual most minecraft servers are becoming the same, do the same thing and has a “custom feature” which in reality costs like $20 from here.

So I’m wondering do some of you server owners develop your whole core for the Gamemode that you’re making? If you do, do you think it’s easier to manage what gets added into the server. Or do you just prefer minecraft plug-in websites for creating a server

"Okay so as usual most minecraft servers are becoming the same" agreed

" do the same thing and has a “custom feature” which in reality costs like $20 from here." Agreed, most of the things that used to be "custom" now have spigot plugins

"So I’m wondering do some of you server owners develop your whole core for the Gamemode that you’re making?" "core" has a few meanings, a general core, ranks, punishments, misc things (chat colour and stuff like that), staff stuff and so on. Then there is a gamemode core, made for the specific gamemode. Like a KitPvP core, practice core, uhc core and so on. Personally as i'm a dev all servers ive worked on (mine and others if they agree to it) I have everything 100% custom coded. Most of the time, the main server core (rank, punishments, misc, staff stuff ect), but almost 100% of the time it's the gamemode core, yes.

"If you do, do you think it’s easier to manage what gets added into the server." Certainly if you have src, just add onto the code. Makes it better optimized, runs more "together" or "as one", allows you to reuse utils / already placed code, makes it easier to implement other systems into one E.G You have to be level 50 to use a new sword, less plugins and so many more I could go on for days. So yes, it certainly does make it easier to update.

"Or do you just prefer minecraft plug-in websites for creating a server" Unless you want to look like just another server, never ever EVER! After you go to all custom you will never look back. However, you must know that going fully custom will cost you alot. For a full server, four gamemodes, core, misc stuff, bungeecore. It wil cost you upwards of $1,000. If you can't pay the devs don't do it. Either go 50% custom. Not using custom misc stuff and maybe a public "everything" core. Or pay a configurator to config a public plugin. However, I believe this should be a last resort.

Sorry if there are grammar mistakes I wrote this as I was saying it in my head, let me know if I need to clear anything up.

Agreed with ZoiBox, a custom coded gamemode is the way to go. I used to host a bunch of different servers using "minecraft plugin websites". I decided to shut them all down for this one custom coded project we've been working on for the past 2.5 years. You better come off with a good idea/documentation before investing into one.

If you're making a custom gamemode then certainly go with a custom core, sure "pre-made" cores are useful at times but it would be a shame to add one to a custom coded project. And yes its way easier to add on to a custom core, its your code, your idea, your server, your project you know where what is and how it should be so its better and easier to do!
