Hey MC-Market,

Recently I have been really thinking there isn't a real good place to find a database of sorts on scammers. Coming from discord, there really isn't a good system to report scammers on there and they can easily come back. Even discord doesn't allow servers to have a scammer report system. I mean just a while ago discord.gg/scammeralert was taken off discord. And it was really the only place to go.

Now that we have the basic ideas we need to know pros and cons

Pros:
• This would be relatively easy to implement as it would act very similar to the current system for onsite scammers.
• It would give Mcmarket users a better place to find known scammers or past issues with users.

Cons:
• Staff would definitely be a big issue, at the current standing point, Mcmarket staff is already struggling with normal scam reports. Unless they A: get a ton of new staff to manage this system or B: get there current staff to adapt to this, this suggestion won't preform well.

Counter Cons:
To sort of counter the cons of this idea, it could just be an open system where a Mcmarket user can post their proof of the user scamming and just leave it at that, no confirmations, the only confirmations would be you to decide if the person was a scammer. This would require a significant less amount of staff to monitor this part of MCM.

Thanks for reading, I really hope this is at least considered.

I mean, you mentioned it yourself, Staff are catching up on scam-reports to this day and, it's not as simple as "hiring" a bunch of new staff members. I personally don't see anything like this being implemented anytime soon.

I mean there are private sectors that are taking this into action, such as scam base and another platform I can't be bothered to pull out. Also, if mcm can't make there own discord, why would they make a discord system. I agree with Patrick, don't see this happening soon.

I will have to agree with you guys views partially, but it's still something that the discord platform needs in my opinion. Sure there's 2 sides of every story, but that's where I say it should be the users themselves that could decide who's a scammer and such. This may or may not be a good thing for Mcmarket but it would be a good idea for discord itself . This thread is still here for the idea and the fact I haven't seen anyone suggest it before.[DOUBLEPOST=1616037176][/DOUBLEPOST]

Didn't see this but if you know of anyone actually doing this, don't hesitate to mention it please!

any suggestion that's posted here that helps the website gets fucking downvoted lmfao
Because the suggestions look good on paper, but truly are a bad idea. It's not "helping" the website, and honestly no one cares about off-site users. They're not influencing the traffic towards Mc-Market, so why should we care? Any scammer with a brain knows to use aliases upon aliases, emails upon emails, they never keep the same. So this is a useless idea.

About the scammer part, that's incorrect. Not all scammers do have the option to do that. As a discord server can be a scam server, it can be easily tracked who owns it and if there's alias changes

But people who scam aren't going to invite you to their community

You realize with discord, you find the scamming server first right? They're called invite reward servers. Which 90% of servers that do it scam with it.

Before you deal with someone, verify who they are on MC-Market.
If they do not have an MC-Market account, ask them to create one.
If the deal goes through, you will then have an MCM account to create a scam report on.

Plenty of users have already given valid reasons for why this suggestion shouldn't be accepted, but in my opinion, staffing overhead isn’t even a primary concern. More important is the fact that such reports would always be made with the accused party being unable to defend themselves and unable to cross-check that the logs and other evidence being provided are full and unedited. We would be accepting uncontested logs and by making a decision based off of them, asserting that they are reliable when they are not.

There’s a very strict format by which we require discord logs be presented if the accused party isn’t available to contest them. However, even then it is only with the knowledge that we are actively emailing and notifying the accused party that this evidence has been used to publicly accuse and punish them for scamming, so that they immediately know to create a ticket, appeal the decision and clear their name by means of resolving the scam report. We have no such ability when it comes to people that have not been tied to an MCM account, and it would be inappropriate for us to behave as if we have enough knowledge to be silently branding these people as scammers.

However, most importantly, this would only further encourage and provide a false sense of comfort to the practice of dealing with people who do not have an MC-Market account.

There is no limit to the number of discord identities a scammer may possess. Blacklisting one is ineffective when they can simply switch to another account.

Require that your transaction partners have an active and unbanned MC-Market account before dealing.
If they refuse, you’ll know you have reason to be cautious. If they do and then scam you, we will at least be able to ban them and track them across any future accounts they may create, making it significantly more difficult for them to scam other users who also require an MCM account.

Denied, but thank you for the suggestion.
