Hey everyone,

Though unscheduled, today we will be making some major changes to our platform. We have recently received communications from Mojang’s legal representatives and have been working with them in order to ensure that MC-Market can continue to operate lawfully and with the best interests of our shared community in focus.

MC-Market Branding
The first thing you may have noticed is that our previous tagline “#1 Minecraft Trades & Sales Forum” has been removed. We have also removed all mention of the Minecraft game from our footer, our Twitter bio, and other areas of our site where the mention of the Minecraft game may have contributed to confusion regarding our relationship to Mojang or Minecraft.

In addition, we have also created notices on all pages of our website disclaiming any official or approved relationship with Mojang. We would like to clarify once again for everyone, that we are not affiliated with Mojang in any way nor do we have any rights over their Minecraft game.

We would like to remind everyone to abide by Mojang’s branding guidelines, which prohibit any implied official association with Minecraft or Mojang. Anyone found to be advertising or branding themselves in a way which could lead to confusion over the product or service’s ties with Minecraft or Mojang, or otherwise violates their branding guidelines will be immediately removed from our platform. If you observe any branding or advertising which you believe may violate these requirements, please utilize the report button to ensure it is seen by our staff team.

Minecraft Accounts
As it has been pointed out in the past, the resale of Minecraft accounts is not allowed by Mojang. From this point on, we fully intend to ensure our users are abiding by Mojang’s EULA. What this means is the Minecraft accounts section has been removed as well as the accounts prefix being removed from the appraisals sub-forum as well as any threads there that were found to be promoting account selling.

From this point on, Minecraft accounts are not to be sold and any posts found to be promoting the transaction of Minecraft accounts will be removed and the user warned for breaking rule:
5.4 Do not offer or sell anything you do not own or have the right to redistribute.

While this change may not be popular among many, this is something that must happen so we can both continue to protect the rights of all sellers as well as move MCM forward in a direction where we promote ethical business practices by our community.

Other Content
In order to protect the policies and rights of all sellers and buyers on MCM, going forward we intend to continue making changes to the platform to make sure there is no content that is in violation. However, this will take place over time as we continue to investigate the user agreements of potential companies of interest and develop appropriate tools and policies to accommodate them.

To start this transition, we have removed the Social Media Accounts section and all of its sub-forums. Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, and certain email services like Gmail all do not allow their accounts to be resold. With that said, YouTube accounts, as per YouTube’s policy, are allowed to be sold, and threads offering YouTube channels can be posted in the Other Products section here: https://www.mc-market.org/forums/other-products/

Like Minecraft accounts, users found to be transacting the disallowed social media accounts or promoting their transaction will be warned for rule 5.4 and their content removed. With so many recent changes to what is being tolerated on this platform, it has become necessary for us to provide the community with a reliable source of information on what products and services they are forbidden from attempting to purchase or sell. We have written a wiki enumerating such products and services for your convenience: https://www.mc-market.org/wiki/forbidden-products-and-services

If you are a representative of any brand or business and you believe that your rights are being infringed on by content posted or promoted by MCM, please start a line of communication by opening a ticket here https://www.mc-market.org/tickets/new and we will work with you to make sure any violations of your rights are dealt with.

Thank you all for understanding and joining us as we continue to improve MCM and its policies.

Mick

In my honest opinion, this is really really stupid and sad, but MCM doesn't have a choice, so.

But while we're at it, might as well get rid of everything else breaking rules on this site right?

Gift codes & licenses - Most people are selling discord nitro & stuff like that, which are mostly carded and I'm pretty sure are against the TOS of the companies that they're getting the stuff they're selling from. (as in I don't think Discord would like that people are selling Nitro, especially for cheaper that they most likely got via carding)

Videogame items - This subforum is highly neglected. People are still selling Hypixel Coins and Items, despite that being against the rules. I don't think Fortnite (and other companies) like that people are selling accounts here for their game either, so get rid of that.

Established Servers - Discord doesn't allow the selling of their servers, so get rid of that section. I don't know about Minecraft servers being sold, but I wouldn't doubt it.

Other Services - Get rid of it, or moderate it, because people are now selling OG names for places like Spotify, TikTok, and more. Don't forget that there are people selling illegal social media boosting services in there to increase the number of likes or followers a certain account has. There are so many services in this one part of the forum that are against the law or against the TOS of companies that I couldn't even list them all, so it should be removed.

Currency Conversion - Paypal doesn't like converting currencies for Paypal, and a majority of the section is selling Bitcoin for Paypal or vice versa, so get rid of it.

Investment & Loans - This part of the forum shouldn't even be on here in the first place. I shouldn't have to say why, but I will. This is an exit scammer's dream, especially right now. (since the Minecraft section is gone) This forum is filled with a bunch of underaged kids as well. MCM isn't the place to get a loan or an investment.

Appraisals - A majority of appraisals (upwards of 80-90%) is just for Minecraft accounts, but now that you can't sell them, the section shouldn't be here.

TL;DR: If MCM is going to get rid of the Minecraft section and the other sections that "break the TOS of companies", Investment & Loans, Other Services, Appraisals, Established Servers, Currency Conversion, Videogame Items, and Gift-codes/Licenses need to go as well.

Mc-Market was practically built on TOS breaking products and has to completely change in order to survive. If it can that is.

Mojang’s EULA is such a grey space. It’s ambiguous. “Anything we’ve made”. I can’t figure out if they are referring to the actual game itself (source code, binaries, etc) or legitimately the entirety of it’s assets which could include setups & builds.

Either way, you’re right. Enforcing Mojang’s EULA go the fullest extent would mean getting rid of builds (in “world” format, not schematics), setups, Spigot forks- anything containing trace amount to work created by Mojang.

This was inevitable, really. I know people like Marc_IRL have been somewhat aware of the account trade here, and didn't exactly approve. But individual employees don't have the power to do things like this so it's obvious someone high up decided that they didn't want accounts to be traded anymore.
Obviously they are aware that they can't completely cull the account trade, but by removing all sorta-legitimate platforms for it, they can at least curb it.
They most likely view the account trade as a strong motivation behind many accounts being compromised, something they wouldn't be willing to allow to continue.
Whether this is correct or not is not something I can comment on, since I've kept my nose out of the entire thing as much as possibly, even back when I was on staff here.

I’ve always interpreted it as anything made/created within the game alongside anything that’s illustrates their intellectual property.

Mojang wants to be the only one making money off their game. They tolerate servers because if multiplayer were to be removed and replaced with realms it would lead to extreme backlash.

Lel. Mc market is just gonna be market. No more mc mentions = half of the point of the forum to many. And as mentioned by many you should’ve expected this. Lots have suggested it and also told you this’d happen. Might aswell remove anything else breaking any eulas before mcm shuts down. Aka no p2w servers, no reselling codes or accounts.rip half the services of mcm
