I. Introduction
Howdy, everyone! Due to covid-19 and the ongoing lockdowns all around the globe, I decided that I would start some kind of 'blog' on mc-market that aims towards helping students, starting entrepreneurs, and generally people to improve their (work) life with simple but significant steps. If the feedback for these articles is positive and there's enough demand for more I will try to publish one article per week.
I will try to keep the information in these articles as plain and simple as possible, I will also write a short summary at the end of every article for those who want to have the information summed up rather than having to read through the article.
II. The problem with today's world
We live in a constantly evolving and ever-changing world. Constantly connected through our phones we are able to pick up enormous amounts of information and have more opportunities than ever before - so why are we often unhappy or unmotivated?
One of the main mistakes we make is comparing ourselves with others, even if we don't even intend to do it. Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, all these platforms are filled with content of perfect lives, people who are incredibly successful, have everything you ever dreamed of. The truth is, your life is just as good as theirs. Stop comparing yourself with others, quit looking at perfect ideals of life and live your own damn life and make the best out of it.
You have one life. Not two, one. Why would you spend time look at others living their life while you could enjoy your own?
According to studies, 70% of Americans are unhappy with their work. Can you imagine that? This means around two out of three hate their job. With an average work-time of 40-45 years till retirement, most people spend thousands of hours being unhappy, stuck at a job they don't even like. Remember what I said about life? You have one life. One life full of potential, no matter how old you are. Life is full of opportunities.
III. Achieving lasting happiness
The first step to achieving lasting happiness and passion for something is asking yourself 'Why am I unhappy' - you might think this is hilarious and that there's not one specific answer to it and yes, maybe not, but in almost all cases you are able to figure out one thing in your life that makes you unhappy, it might be a job, a toxic relationship, lack of motivation or depression. No matter what it is, imagine the following: You are 80 years old and look back at your life. Would you be proud of what you have done? And if you look back, what would you like to see? Life is short, incredibly short, too short to waste it.
You want to use every single fucking day. You surely are interested in something, and if your answer is 'No' you likely just haven't tried enough. We all have this one thing called passion, some might have already found it while others are still searching for it. Passion gives us the fuel to take on tasks, to get up every morning, to work on this one thing we thrive for. If you found your passion work won't feel hard, you will be excited about it! So keep trying new things, take risks and find your passion - it will make everything easier.
Also, Mondays don't suck. Your mindset does. Most people live for the weekend, they go to work, school, or college five days a week and the only thing they are waiting for is the weekend. You have to get rid of this, be excited for every single day by seeing it as a chance to grow and improve yourself. Monday isn't the worst day of the week. It's the first day of the week. A new week, a new day, a new chance to your better self. Think about every day as an opportunity to be a tiny bit better than yourself the day before. As I mentioned, happiness comes from within. Bring joy in your life by enjoying the small things, appreciate your warm cup of coffee, your made bed, and the life you have.
Another common misconception is that success equals financial success. But that's not true. Success is waking up with a smile and going to bed, being enthusiastic about the next day. You can earn $200,000/year by working 70+ hours a week, but at what expense? Why would you want money if you don't have the time to spend it? Overthink the way you see success and happiness and redefine them.
One of the most important factors is to stop giving a single fuck. You don't need to fit in the crowd, you have to be yourself. You don't need expensive clothes, watches, or expensive jewelry to maintain your social status among others - stop giving a fuck about what others think. To name one of my most favorite quotes: "Too many people spend money they haven't earned to buy things they don't want to impress people they don't like."
And it's true, I'm guilty of it too, we are trying to earn the respect of others, it's a natural desire. Just try to get natural appreciation by the things you do when others notice it, rather than actively trying to fit in.
Another path to achieve happiness is through true selflessness and committing yourself to help others, helping others feels great and makes others happy. Even a little gesture can make someone's day a lot better. We are so focused on ourselves that we often forget the people around us, remember that everyone has bad days, try to get engaged in helping others, donate to charities, participate in community events and help the ones who need it the most.
Learn to accept and look forward, there is no need to regret the past. Yesterday is in the past, it's gone, you can't change what happened - learn from your mistakes and move on, trying to do better. Stop living in the past when the future is ahead of you, as aforementioned, you have one life, 75 years on average, and over 25,000 days. Build something that you will look back at, being proud of what you accomplished. Accept your failures and mistakes, forgive others and move on.
But here is the most important part: Happiness is a state of mind. Of course, happiness can also come into our life through love, but even then we still have to maintain a positive flow of thoughts. Continues negativity will make you feel bad, depressed, and unmotivated. Replace pessimism with optimism, an opportunity is waiting around every corner. Be daring, start a new business venture, or do something that you always wanted to do - for example, skydiving!
IV. How to get started?
So, after reading all this you might ask yourself, Zero, how do I get started? Get up, right after reading this article and work on improving your life. Grab a book, your dumbells, or your laptop to start working on your project. Stop lying in bed all day and get out for a walk, surround yourself with positive thoughts, spend time with friends, play your favorite songs and achieve your goals. You haven't defined them yet? Grab a pen and write ten goals down, then narrow it down to the three most important for you and read them out loud every day.
Put your phone away and start being active, strive for your goals, you can achieve everything you want to if you commit yourself to do it, nothing can stop you. Crush it!
Success is not easy, but once you start achieving your goals it will feel like a drug - you'll become greedy for more! Get addicted to living your life to the fullest, laugh, smile, and accept that there are also bad days, just don't give up. Life will push you to your limits, challenge you, and try to keep you down, you have to fight your way through it, no matter what comes. Stay humble and never forget where you came from. Spend times with the people you love, trust me, I'm talking from experience, one day they'll be gone and you'll never be able to talk to them again. Appreciate life, you only live once, live it to the fullest...
V. Denouement
Thank you for reading through my third article. I know it was a little longer than usual but I hope that you enjoyed it regardless. I decided to start writing this article after my great-grandpa died and after I went through a rough time, knowing that others might feel the same and need the help to fix up their lives and keep on fighting. Life is beautiful, once again, enjoy it and make sure to make it worth living - it's up to you, and only you.
~ In loving memory of my great-grandpa.
Enjoy your weekend and stay healthy,
