Hi,

Please implement limitations to what usernames people can register and change to. Members already can't change their names to those similar to staff members, however what is the difference between staff impersonation and something similar in a business situation?

There shouldn't be a difference.

Thanks.

(Situation started as a result of Jesse and jurhe d)

Say someone joins this site with "Dragon" or some generic name, then the person with the ign "Dragon" wants to join this site? I don't think this can really be implemented as there are common words used here and someone might want the next closest thing. I know on HF people add a . to the end of their name because what they wanted was already taken.

Yeah, I agree with this. I reported jurhe d when I saw it, and the staff member involved rejected the report because "similar names are allowed". Makes no sense, it's sort of impersonation. If I changed my name to rocket0181 I'm sure something would have been done about it because he's an admin. Same should go for users.

Using periods in your username should be removed, it's the only difference between your and jurhe d's name, and is barely noticeable, leading to confusion. Having to change a whole letter instead of adding a small dot could have less confusion, and I don't think it would be a problem if the users don't try to act like each other or have the same profile pic etc.

I agree with this completely. We shouldn't allow users to have similar usernames. It's bad for business and people get confused
